    with buffers.

This is a graph from my APEX of my pH for the last week. The big dip you see yesterday evening was caused by 50 people in my house for a Christmas party. Adding buffers will only very temporarily raise pH and most of them will have marked effects on alkalinity.

The other smaller, cyclical reductions are from vinegar dosing via dosing pump.

    WOW.....that is crazy...

  3. Thats really cool to see! It's known "typically" during winter months we don't open doors as much, therefore CO2 levels in our homes rise thus pH in aquariums decreases, but I have never seen anyone post they're evidence of this. Thank you for sharing! I gotta get a controller...

That's the largest # of people we've had in the house since the tank was started. Groups of around 20 made a similar effect but only about .04 reduction in pH. None of the livestock seemed to take any notice and shortly after everyone left the pH started to rise.

Thought it was pretty cool to see the science in action.

Very interesting information. My PH is back at 8.3 from the 7.9 the other night.I'm trying to figure out what is going on with my tank. Losing another fish tonight. Flame Angel was fine this morning, fed him last night, today he is hidden in a cave, breathing heaving and bleached out looking. The brown algae is a bit better, not growing as fast. Losing my pulsing Zenias, and Green Button Polyps. Got my Red Sea test kits today, all levels of everything seem to be well within the limits. I can't figure this out. Contamination of some kind but from where. Another water change Friday.....

Jerry, so sorry to hear that! What parameters did you check? Ammonia? I've been racking my brain but can't come up with anything. Did you replace your DI resin?

I have checked Ammonia, Nitrates, Nitrites, Calcium, Phosphates, Magnesium, PH and Salinity. I don't see anything wrong. I moved the Green Button Polyps and they have opened up a bit, more than in the last week. The Pulsing Zenia's are almost gone. The Flame Angel died about an hour ago. I don't understand? Most everything else in the tank looks fine. This actually started after adding a Duncan Coral. I can't find anything online that suggests the Duncan could cause this??? I am buying water now from the Fish Tank. My new ro/di system should be in within the next few days, I hope. I'm at a loss. What could possibly contaminate just certain species? My PH has returned to 8.3. Thanks for posting the graph, that is very interesting to see just how much ph can vary during the course of a day. I'll take you up on that water test on Saturday. I'll bring some samples.

LOL family Christmas gathering started around 12pm today. They just left, we'll see how long it takes the pH to rebound. 8.08 is the lowest it's been in a long time
