My Flamehawk is in the overflow tank, how can I safely remove him? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

How big is he? If he's small enough I've had good luck just pulling my standpipe and giving him a fun ride to the sump. Another strategy I've heard is to buy a bunch of large glass marbles and gradually fill the overflow up until he's easy to net.

Sshrewww... I got him with 2 nets. I thought it would be a couple hours to get him out of there.

Glad you got him so easy! It's fairly easy to make a cover for the overflow(or the entire tank for that matter) out of clear plastic netting from BRS. We did a demo at a club meeting a while back.

My Diamond Tail Flasher lived in my overflow for 6 weeks one time. I thought he was dead and eaten. One day I was about to clean my skimmer cup and there he was swimming in the skimmer section of the sump. He somehow got sucked in to the primary drain and took the magic carpet ride to the sump!

Yes me too, I couldn't believe it! I do need to look into a cover for the top especially before I put my yellow wrasse in there. I wish I could find my lemonpeel in my sump, he just completely disappeared on me! Glad your flasher is back where he belongs!

I had a 4" wrasse in my QT setup get in the overflow. I figured he was small enough to go through the pipe - he was. But wasn't for the union hole (much smaller). I had to push him back up the pipe into the empty overflow. Was still on the gravel for day and I figured he was dead, but wasn't. Then a couple days later managed to go carpet surfing....big let down.

So NOW I have full light grid on the overflow and over the entire tank.
