what are the best inverts to help maintain hair algae?

That's a tough one. I've really not had much luck with any invert making a dent on hair algae. That includes turbo, astrea, trochus snails as well as all the hermits. I do have a Gold Rim Tang that's a hair algae eating machine.

The one invert I've heard of eating it well is a sea hare. The problem there is they can be toxic if they die and aren't removed immediately.

That species usually needs a 6 foot tank...and not all of them will eat it.

Try manual removal and to address any nutrient import/ export imbalances. Also be sure to make sure you source water is properly filtered and there are not cartridges that are past due being replaced. Better to treat and prevent the problem at the source then to put a bandage on it. Also look into Vibrant. Seems to be a lot of very good results coming from use of that product to rid hair algae. There are some videos on bulk reef supply about using it with tests that they did. May want to look into that to give you an advantage in over coming the issue.

For sure, he cleaned that tank up in less than two days. Only problem is what to do with him in a tank that size after all the hair algae is gone!

Just move it around I'm sure there is someone else with some hair algae. He can just tank hop!

So I did take you guys advise on getting a sea hare and he is making short work out of the algae. Is there anyone struggling with hair algae that would want him when he has finished his job in my tank?
