I had a couple of new aluminum brackets fabricated to hold the lights over the macroalgae tank and the frag tank. The lights had been just sitting on top and it was a nuisance to get into the tank.
Just read through this thread, I need to see more of this system! That porthole poster idea is sweet!
A meeting was hosted there last year. You really don't want to see it. I was so distraught I was moved to push my stuff to curb..... It really is an awesome set up. #greentothegills
Salinity Monitoring As many have reported before, the Apex Salinity Monitoring Probe can be very temperamental to get a steady reading. There are numerous reports of interference (Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) due to inadequate cable shielding) to the probe wire from nearby AC current. If you can just move your probe wire away from power cords this will likely fix your problem. I was getting a lot of wild readings throughout the day. If you can't move your cords due to space constraints you can try adding a copper shielding tape like this one. Bought this off Amazon for around 8 bucks. I also added the tape to temperature and pH probe wires. I also added another cable tray and isolated all low voltage wiring (probes, level switches, data wires). RESULTS: Salinity probe readings have been absolutely steady for 24 hours without the hourly drops I was seeing before. Automatic salinity monitoring is certainly not a must and I only use it as part of a fail-safe in case the Auto Top Off system failed. I actually have five fail-safes in place for ATO.
Thanks Kim. I'll be working in the Little Rock area more often for a while so I hope that I can. My brother and I are building a CNC router which will make it possible to build more cool stuff out of acrylic. (tanks, sumps, frag racks, etc)
I've also heard the probe is greatly affected by micro bubbles. Mounting it upside down was a solution one guy did to alleviate that problem.
Hey! I have finally finished this entire thread and I must say that I can tell an engineer set this tank up!! Great work! I love the water room. I hope to have a room for all of the stuff some day. The water change bins are a great idea too! I absolutely love how clean and organized everything is! I'd love to see this in person some day.. Oh! And I didn't realize you live in Longview until I read the thread. I have family that lives there too. Small world!
I wish I could. I'm already blown away just watching the setup via YouTube. It appears DoubleOrange has been both inactive here and on YouTube. My attempts to contact him with few questions have gone unanswered.
Give it some time. A lot of ppl seem to have stuff happening at the moment. I’m sure he will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have. And welcome to the forum
