Ok so I kinda gave my GF and ear full about how she says she wants to do something and then never follows through...

So then i decided i better do what i can to get the mantis tank up and running...

So i bought an extra 10 gallon that i can drill and setup while keeping my current setup running...

Now... i need someone to help me drill my tank and set up a corner over flow... I want the bottom of the tank drilled (if possible) for the outlet (if i have to drill the back ill just have to live with it)...

Oh and i need to get some bulkheads... i would like to find somewhere local to get them so i dont have to order them all at the same time since i am so wishy washy on what i actually want...

    grats....

smallest local bulkheads i could find were at NSA .. he has 1" all the time ...

as far as the overflow... what i did was buy a 4-6" pipe and saw it in half...

silicon that against the wall AFTER you drill the hole...

course my overflow hole is high and on the side...

BOTTOM is Out of the question on a 10gallon .. you might as well just hand me $15 bucks and say you broke the tank.. same difference..

if not for all the stuff i got goin on the rest of this month i would give you a hand .. if its after the month is over i could proly help with the drilling and such.

I though someone might say the bottom is out...

They make black PVC for sewage right? if so im ok with the pvc thing...

and 1" would be ok for an outlet... i mean actually the bigger the better, but my inlets are gonna need smaller... might just have to order them....

do most ppl drill the top or the bottom (of the side)? is placing it higher or lower advantageous in any way?

you dont need to spend the extra money on black PVC if you dont want... a can of blk plastic paint worked just fine for me

NSA has bulkheads bigger then 1" just nothing SMALLER ..

i drilled mine about 2-3 inches from the top... my thoughts on that were even if the seal on the homemade overflow (pvc) failed the tank would still only drain down 3 inches from the top and save the refugium from complete death.

after testing the seals on my pvc overflow and actually having it running i would say go atleast halfway down... mine isnt down far enough and if i get the flow going strong enough it makes a sluring sound . i assume that if the drain was lower in the overflow tube it wouldnt do this as bad.

black krylon fusion (for plastics) spray paint works great too for pvc

I just used plastic paint on my 200 for the overflow boxes and the pvc inside the tank. Chris and Blake have used it with no problems. Just make sure you let it cure before adding water.

Ok so i swear someone told me they might could help me drill the tank in May... who was that and can you help me?

  10. That was probably me that said that I could help you drill the tank. I have one inch bits that are left over from Normans 200 drilled project and one 1 1/2. I go back to work Thur - Sunday just let me know when you would like to come by. I think that we can probably get a couple of holes out of the bits that are left.

Did you see all the mantis shrimps that NSA got in last week. They had one large one that was just beautiful.

  12. The specifically ordered them. The only other club member that I now of that likes mantis shrimp is Heather from Stuttgart. I don't know what it is, I just have never been a fan of mantis shrimp. It must be something in the genes.
