Sea whip growing. (Sorry for the noise in the photo) And here's the red gonoporia I got from Live Aquaria a week or two ago. I'm not really happy with it. It looks purple to me, and I'm not sure if these are far as the polyps are supposed to extend? Is it maybe an encrusting one? They seem to have smaller polyps. I wish I would've paid double for the ora red gonoporia. That's what I was wanting.
I think the polyp extension on those is effected by the flow and light they are in, ie high light and high flow will show less extension. It's still very pretty.
The ora one? Yeah I'm wishing I had got it it was like $120, and the red goni I ordered was like $50. It wasn't red though. I've also been waiting on unique corals to add one of these weeping leathers back. I really want one.
Update on hair algae battle. I decided to try some algaefix just to try and get this problem under manageable control. I just added dose 2. I'm already seeing it turn lighter, and strands of it floating and getting in my filter sock. Most people have seen a big difference in doses 5-7. I've also started doing a 20% water change every week, instead of every two weeks. I've also stopped feeding the flake & pellet food to see if that helps. Most of the flake food was for algae eaters. All of my fish in this tank are supposed to be major algae eaters (except mandarin) I hadn't noticed them really eating the hair algae or much on the rocks. I think the flake food was making them lazy. I've now noticed them picking the rocks, and my foxface ripping the hair algae out like crazy. So maybe with the combination of these methods, I will start to see some improvements.
It was a WYSIWYG frag too. Every coral I have ordered in the past from them has been accurate in coloration. I think it would make a nice piece if I could grow it into a large ball.
This is his new favoriteplace to lounge. The Algaefix seems to be really combating my hair algae problem. It is almost gone completely off the sand bed and the overflow. Both were covered when I started. It is still on my live rock, but it does seem to be decreasing. The only negative I've seen is that two of my hammers and one frogspawn are not inflating like they should. Some of my hammers are fine. It's only the large colonies that are affected. I may cut the dose of algaefix back just to see. I've been dosing 70ml, but I'm not sure how much live rock I've got in the tank, which would affect water volume. You are supposed to dose 10ml for every 10 gallons.
Is this what a feeding response in a Gonipora looks like? I just fed the tank, but I'm never sure if they eat. It looks like it to me.
Yes! See the enlarged bases of the polyp. Lots of different corals do this when feeding. My Duncan's polyps look like rose buds when I feed them. Cool!
