I jinxed myself!

@Cameronclements I totally jinxed myself taking about keeping the floor dry ... I filled my top off reservoir with a tiny pump last night and when it was done with the entire 5 gallon jug (it already had some in it too) I removed the pump and turned it off and set the pump in the little bowl I have inside the cabinet. I proceeded to sit down with my bowl of carrots and my son on my lap to rock and watch a show. After a few minutes I looked over for some reason and saw water on the floor. I immediately got up in a panic because I sure don't need 100 gallons of water on the floor! I turned on the lights and tried to figure out where it was coming from and when I opened the cabinet I saw the bowl full of water (as well as the cabinet) ... that dang tube siphoned the water back out of the reservoir and all over everything! It must've been about halfway down so maybe about 4 gallons was on the floor! I grabbed towels and was so thankful all electric was up on boards behind the cabinet and not on the floor! I couldn't believe I let that happen! I'll be leaving the pump on top of the reservoir from now on! Dang siphon! And it wouldn't even have been as bad but we still have those foam tiles down in the living room for our son since we have hard tile throughout the house. So of course water got all up under about 4 of them around the front. Thankfully I saw it when I did and that I had towels handy. It definitely could have been worse!

And to top off my night ... I had just been thinking about our son being potty trained for over a year (he's 3) and not really accident prone except for a little pee if he waits too long but usually nothing big. He also regularly wakes himself up to go in the middle of the night. Well I was watching my show (finally) and saw him get up and head towards the potty and he just stopped in the hall and started peeing on the floor! I ran over and sat him down on his potty but there was already a large puddle. So I cleaned that up and hum and got him back into bed only to find that he had peed on the bed too! erg!

I finally got to finish my show. Mental note to never think anything! lol thinking I'd make a mess on carpet led me to making a rather frustrating mess on tile and thinking I was proud of my kid for being so well potty trained since he turned 2 and rarely having big accidents totally got me cleaning up pee off the floor and bed tonight. Just stop thinking stuff!! Either way it's getting me lately! lol

Thought y'all might get a kick out of all that.

    Siphons are the devil!

I had the high water alarm go off on my ATOa few days ago. I had filled my ATO reservoir a little higher than usual and the level was higher than the end of the tubing. First time the ATO pump came on it started a siphon and over filled my sump. Fortunately not enough to overflow the sump

My tube comes out of the reservoir and wraps around in a couple circles that are tucked between the reservoir and sump then goes across to the far side of the sump where it is attached in the corner pointing down. I haven't had a siphon problem out of that one before. Maybe I should put a check valve on it! It's airline tubing. Would an airline check valve be sufficient in this low pressure case?

As a general rule I don't trust check valves as far as I can throw them. They can and eventually do fail.

As long as the end of your tubing is higher than the highest level in your reservoir you're good to go. It's hard to explain but there is another way to stop siphoning from happening in this application. I'll try to draw a picture and post it later.
