Anyone have suggestions for something to eat aptasia? I have a 75 gallon tank. My fear is that as we all know just because something is supposed to eat aptasia doesn’t mean it will eat aptasia. Can u guys help me out with some advise. The aptasia has not spread everywhere I can see about five or so.
If you have that few and they are in an accessible place, you might be able to eliminate them without adding an aiptasia predator. There is a product called F Aiptasia that is very effective. It does require strict following of the directions. Biological choices are peppermint shrimp (there are many species sold with this name but only one...(Lysmata wurdemanni) that eats aiptasia, Berghia nudibranchs, Copperband or Marginalis butterfly, file fish (A. tomentosus). There are pros and cons to all of these. Peppermint shrimp, butterflies and file fish vary in their probability of eating aiptasia depending on the individual. Berghia are the most dependable biological choice but they are expensive and subject to predation by certain fish we keep. There is also the moral dilemma as to what to do with them after the aiptasia are gone. They are obligate aiptasia predators and will starve once the food supply is gone. Good luck!!!
doc thats great advice! I will say I possibly can contribute the loss of some of my zoas from my ORA file fish. That fish is now gone but it did not bother them until after the aptasia disappeared.
