    Hiya,

Bummer on the wrasse loss! Though, the new fish look nice. Hope they make it through QT.

You only doing 2 tangs? Thought there was a 3 rule with tangs.

Nah, no 3 rule for me. That idea was to distribute aggression but 3 is too many IMO for my tank. If the aggression gets to be a problem one will have to go. Since mine are from two different genus, are both very small and will go in at the same time the odds are pretty good it will be fine. When they go in they will probably be behind the copperband, the flame wrasse, the ear muff and the red line in the pecking order. When they get mature will be when problems are most likely to surface if they do.

I was under the assumption that it was not only aggressive distribution but 3+ created a schooling affect that cancelled some of it out.

Can you tell what these are? Hint...there's been some Barry White music playing in the fish room lately.

  6. Limpets? No, maybe a little too coned already for limpet wee babies. What have you got there Doc?

They're baby Banded Trochus snails! At least two different spawnings judging by their size difference. There are two of the smaller ones (one of them is on the back of a larger one). The small are about the size of a large grain of sand. The larger ones are about the size of the smiley face in the function bar above the post reply box.

Pretty cool. I've not seen the eggs anywhere, just happened to see these guys in the sump yesterday. There must be 30-40 of them.

    Diaster has struck!

I've been pretty much not at home since last Saturday. My dad has been first in Baptist Hospital and then St Vincent's He finally got to come home Wed and I spent the night at his house Wed night. I came home last night and instantly knew something was wrong. My pH was 0.1 lower than normal and several of my SPS were in RTN. This includes 3 of my frags from Brandon and my purple acro from Corey (roco on here). I started testing with alkalinity and my heart sank when the first reading was 5.9! I opened the stand and the alkalinity reservoir was empty. Same stinking thing I did a year or so ago. In my defense I had a legitimate reason to be distracted this time.

I've slowly increased the alk by turning on my doser with my cell phone a few times today while at work. Tonight alk was up to 6.6 which is about as fast as I want it to come up. All of my LPS looks good, my acans seem to be blissfully happy. In fact there are several new heads on the club acan from a few months ago and 4 new ones on one of the rainbows I got from TL reef.

Thankfully there is a happy ending. My dad is doing better and at least several SPS seem to be unaffected other than poor polyp extension.

Reefing is a roller coaster hobby for sure!

  13. @huntindoc I'm glad your Dad is back home. Sorry to hear about your tank losses. It is crazy how quickly the water swings.

I am so glad that your dad is home and feeling better!
Thank you for giving me a frag of the purple acro when I lost mine. I still have it, it's growing and doing well. When your tank stabilizes and your ready, I can frag a piece for you.

That sucks! Glad your dad is home and doing better though! Hopefully he makes a full recovery! Strokes can be so scary!

I'm glad to hear that your dad is doing better.
Did you lose any SPS? If so, get me a list and I'll see if I can replace them.

Well, I think I have my alkalinity back to stable!

It shows as my bonsai has colored up some every day this week as has the slimer. Some of the acros with STN seem to have stopped which is a first for me. The purple acro colony that was so big looks like it's gone though. The green acro that was my very first acro from Reefsplash in 2013 is questionable but I'm going to have a few survivors. All of the LPS seems to be unaffected. The zoas are still doing their thing. The Ompa Lompa zoa I got from Reef Gardener has gone from 1 to 5 polyps in a month.
