Large Frag Disks

I know that several people on here have made their own frag disks in the past.  I was wondering if anyone has every poured any larger diameter disks, in the 3" range?  I like to do my corals (zoanthids and LPS) like scoops of ice cream.  I start them on a 3/4" "golf tee" style frag plug.  Then, when they fill that, I cut the bottom off and glue that to a typical 1.75" flat disk, and use epoxy so they grow in a nice dome shape.  Then when they are done with this, I would like to have a larger disk to put them on...

Ben I really like that idea and I also like the ice cream scoop look. I'll see if I can get a mold made to make some of the larger discs for future use. I don't know if anyone has any at the moment. Blake and Mike may have tried some that are larger but I'm not sure.

You are the man, Sam! Let me know.  I'd be happy to pay for materials up front if that would help.

I'll get started on it tomorrow. I have plenty of the stuff to make them just need to make a mold and I'll be set. Is 3" how big you need them or are there other sizes as well.

3" is huge, I'll see if we can prototype you some tomorrow. How many are you needing? If it catches on pretty good, I'll make more.

They are as big as two of my plate corals. These SUPER DISCS are HUGE but thats what Ben wanted. We'll see if he likes them.

Wow!  Talk about turnaround time.  Where else can you get service like this?  Honestly, I would like about 12 or 15.  Remember these are big because they are part for me to grow corals into shapes that I want for my tank.  I'm not running a super frag farm like everybody else on this site!  Thanks Grimmet.  Just awesome.  We'll catch up about getting them to me soon.  Do you work in Little Rock, or close to home?

Ben, I know that was not pointed at me !!! Just a couple frags available for my reef friends to enjoy. Sam is a great "get er done" kinda guy. It's good to have someone so talented and willing to help in the club. Do I see an Aquarist of the Year nomination in the near future?

what do you make your plugs out of?
Do you have to let them cure before being able to use them safely?a

Norman, that was not pointed at you.  The comments were just saying that the disks were so HUGE.  I was basically joking that not everyone is only growing frags with the idea of propogation!  i think it's great that so many are growing in our club.  It's good for the growers, the buyers and the reefs.  Please buy a Scolymia and chop it into 4 pieces so I can afford one!

I make the plugs out of araganite sand and portland cement. Yes they do need to be cured before use.

Ben I work in Bryant. I will start curing them tonite and if you want to you can finish the curing.
Call me sometime tomorrow after 6:00p.m.  920-6012

I met Sam today to swap a couple things and he showed me one of these discs, and they are monsters. He did a great job on them.

Ben, I know you weren't talking directly to me, just my attempt at humor !!! I like the idea of the large frag discs and Sam came by yesterday to retreive his Kliens Butterfly and I saw the finished product. As usual something I can't live without!!. Great idea and some fine work by Sam.
