Welcome to RRMAS Rickey! Lot's of folks here willing to answer your questions. Coming to a meeting is also a great way to learn....by actually seeing a running tank.

Tell us about your plans (tank size, what you would like to keep). Don't be afraid to ask no matter how elementary the question seems. I would be willing to bet there will be others wondering the same thing. :)

The next meeting is in Austin and will display a nice established 75 gallon tank. We would love to see you there.

I am definately planning on attending the meeting. I would like to get some advice on getting started, I have done a fair amount of research but talking to someone that has been in this a while would be a definate advantage getting started. I have a 40 b that I was going to use for a sump and get a 75 gallon for my main tank at petco during the dollar a gallon sale if you can drill their tanks, I am checking on that this morning. So if anyone has any time to get me started please contact me, I am retired and my schedule is open.

when making your sump please make certain to use the appropriate silicone. Most are not reef safe. If you can't drill you could always use an overflow box.

Also the tanks from Petco are generally only tempered on the bottom. Doesn't hurt to double check though. Another option besides a overflow box is a diy PVC overflow with a Tom's lifting pump. It's not as pretty but works fine.

Have you thought about what you want to do with the tank? Mixed reef, sps, lps, softies or a fowlr? That'll make a difference in the setup.

I would like to have a mixed reef favoring sps, lps softies and maybe some clams or whatever goes the best togther, aqueon couldnt tell me what the tank glass is said to do the polarized sunglass trick. The equipment curve is what im trying to reduce i would like to get proven equipment.

    Hiya,

Welcome to the group! Glad to see you're asking questions already. I don't have a sump on my tank, so I can't really help you with that. I've got a mixed reef, sps, lps, and some softies. Can be a tricky balance with coral needs and lighting, but very enjoyable.
