What do y'all use to plumb your brute cans? I'm working on getting my water change station all set up so I can finally get this tank done but I have to redo the seals on the cans and I really don't think the current way is the best solution. There are some sort of rings around a pipe with silicone all over them. Currently they leak and I don't want to keep putting a bandaid on it and I don't want to come out to 30 gallons of water in my garage. I'm not sure what size pipes but maybe they are 2"? I also need to trim that top board a bit so they can sit over the hole correctly. Then I'll brace the pipes down so they don't wiggle every time I turn the ball valve.

Idk if you did that but make sure that you use reef safe aquarium silicone not just 100% silicone cuz some have additives that are deadly. Even if they say 100% or someone else advises you, make sure it's safe and let it cure totally before adding water. I crashed my tank with using the wrong silicone because someone at home depot advised me all 100% silicone are the same.
I'm not sure if those are uniseals or not. I have yet to rip it all apart. And no, I didn't do this. This was how they came to me. All I've done so far is flip the bench around, turn all of the slats to the other side (for the hole), undo and redo the RODI board so it would be more secure and fit in the space allowed. I think I found a ball valve to hook it into the water filter though! Just gotta make sure the line fits. Is this tubing the same as ice maker tubing? And where can I find more? Someone on fishlore suggested to use these.. it's actually exactly what I was looking for but I think I'll have to order them online. e. Hard to get those to seal on a rounded surface like that. They are intended for flat surfaces.....like overflow boxes.
So I finally took one apart and they have uniseals. I think the holes must be too big or something though because they leak with just the seal and the pipe. I may have to start over with new cans.
What Bo is talking about that will kill your tank is anything with a fungicide or anti mold properties. GE silicone 1 is fine as long as it is the plain silicone.
I ended up using a couple strips of silicone tape to fill the 1/8" gap from the hole being cut too big. I haven't water tested it yet but it seems much more secure. This is what I used. Is it ok? http://m.homedepot.com/p/Nashua-Tap...00?keyword=Blue+silicone+tape&searchtype=text
No idea. if it says 100% silicone then I would say yes, if it has fungicide I would say no. When in doubt, google it.
If I use bigger uniseals I have to cut bigger holes. I'm going to try this first. I'm using a bushing to get to 3/4" pipe and bypass all of the step down piping and super hard to turn ball valves. I got a couple brass ones that are much easier. I haven't cut pipe and sealed everything up yet but this is my plan. I also have a brass ball valve I'm going to try to see which one I like better. They attach the same way so it's an easy trade out. And hopefully my extra RODI parts from BRS will get here tomorrow so I can get all of that upgraded and replumbed. From what I've read it should double my output and reduce my waste water by half.
