Looking to upgrade my power head buuuut idk exactly what to go with in this biocube my 75 gallon I just bought 2 100 gal hydro power heads but my overflow was also more towards the middle of the tank so I could set them up on either end and not direct flow away from my overflow. With this biocubes overflow on the back right corner I was worried about adding too much back flow and actually pushing waste away from it. I have seen the gyre buuuuut really wasn’t wanting to drop 300 on the 250 if there was a different option out there. I currently just have one power head and the swiveling return nozzle. I can’t remember the actual gps of the power head because I ran out and bought one quick after coming home from working on the road and my tank looking ugly. I know it said it was rated for up to 20 gallons tho

I found one on marine depot that’s marked opened box for 120 with a controller. Do you have to use controller? Because I’ve seen some sold with and without I’m leaning towards the one I found on marine depot just not 100 percent set on it yet

I love gyres and they now have the 2k and 4ks that are reasonable in price. I have the xr25os on my 180 and a single xr230 and really like them. I probably would try to see what you can find. The Ice cap gyres are made to be the bargain brand of the maxspects.

Yes you need the controller the ones being sold without are "Slave" pumps that are being plugged into to the master controller which has A & B ports

Do they make smaller sizes? Everything I’ve seen even on the 150 it is rated for a 60 gallon tank minimum

I was about to ask about the difference in the 2ks/4K and the others

Looks like the 130 would be my best bet it’s rated for a 25-100 so I’d just have to run it a little low

So there sizing goes off the 2nd number. the first number is the generation. So you are looking for a 130,230, or 330 which are the smallest. Now the 150,250, and 350 are for bigger tanks up to 800 gallons....thats a stretch but with enough of them sure. The 2 and 4k pumps refers to the flow they can produce meaning 2,000 gph or 4,000 gph. I will also add the ice caps have a nice wifi controller feature that you can use from their app but if you connect to an apex its kind whatever because my maxspect gyres are set to what and get turned on and off for feeding and maintenance

Maxspect has 3 models a 30 a 50 and 80. Also they are on the third generation so 130, 230, 330 all are the same but like the sizes the higher the number the bigger the pump and more flow you get.

are the 2ks adjustable like the 130s? I just don’t wanna throw one in and be pushing too much current I like the WiFi connectivity. I don’t currently have a apex on my system when I upgrade to a bigger tank I was going to invest in one

It looks like the 300 series you can download a app and control the same way you would the 2k and 4K soooo idk I might lean to that and when I upgrade I can move it over to the bigger system along with corals and fish

the 2k is rated for 25 to 100+ and it is adjustable.

Ok awesome so I guess it just comes down to price and I guess which one is better made to last so to say

Have you ever bought from saltwateraquarium.com? They are the ones selling the open box one, I’m just wondering how their service is if I was to get it in and there be a problem, or if it’s just be worth the extra 30 to save from them at hassle

I have ordered a lot from them. I like their service...as far as open box stuff that is up to you. They may have an open box policy with how they treat those on warranty or returns. I personally have yet to buy anything from them that was open-box not to say I haven't looked..Just didn't find anything that peaked my interest.

Alright I may try to get ahold of someone with them and ask if there is special stipulations when buying a open box vs brand new if there isn’t then Ill just go with the open box. I’m leaning a little towards the 2k tho depending on quality

Well I am looking at jakes 190 gallon as a upgrade so definitely will need some adaptivity going from a 16gal to a 190 idk may ride it out with the set up I have and start accumulating stuff for the upgrade definitely still thinking about these hydres

Ok so apparently if you buy a box labeled open if you have to return it you won’t have to pay the re stocking fee since the box has already been opened before
