Part of me really wants one of these since I'm constantly having to unplug certain pumps etc... and part of me feels it's a bit of a waste of money since I already have plenty of power strips lying around the house. Anyone have one of these on their tank that could chime in?

Yes, something just like that. The main things I unplug are return pumps, skimmer, and power heads for cleaning. None of which actually need to be unplugged and moved to another area for cleaning. I normally break them down right above the tank or sump.
We have a couple of the stereo switch types and love them. They're handy for that kind of thing, just be sure to break out the label maker so you know what is what.
I have several of these and use them on all systems I set up. I am going to be getting some more soon for the 4 frag systems.
these are what I'm using now... Mr Dj PSC300 it comes in a red button OR a blue button version i think the ones Norman has is the first ones we found when we could get em 2 for $20 -$25 i currently have one on the 150 same ones are about $30ea now blake did some internal tinkering with them and found he didn't care for something in the wiring , he will have to chime in on more specifics so last time i needed one i started looking and came up with these mr dj ones to try ... no reports yet ( haven't used it ) if you want a definitive solid one the American DJ brand ones from like guitar center are the ones a lot use and they come in a 4switch and 8 switch version think its a PC4 and pc100 if i remember correctly
