My pyramid butterfly has all the signs of an ich infection. She underwent some major hazing upon introduction by the sailfin. White spots on fins, beginnings of cloudy eye and what appears to be the classic white spots on body. I have no real hospital tank. Is there a treatment that doesn't kill coral? Better question, is there an effective treatment that doesn't infect coral. I would love to set up the multi-tank treatment, but the previous owners of the tank got rocks infested with ich. Once that crap is in there, there's no getting it out. Wishing now, I had changed the bulb on the UV and not gotten the idea of immediately selling it. Frustrating.

Does UV kill ich? I have one but haven't even thought about hooking it up yet.

No reef safe treatment (that's effective) exists.

UV is ineffective because of the low flow and because it only has access to one stage of the life cycle. So sorry to hear!

cleaner shrimp are helpful, UV will kill anything that get in the general area of them, however it will not eliminate ich from a fish. UV's benefit comes with raising the ORP as much as anything else. Make sure the fish is eating and the tank's water quality is good and pickup a cleaner shrimp or cleaner wrasse(these typically don't last long in home aquaria but will clean fish too)
