ok so I'm about to move all of my fish to QT to treat and let the tank remain fallow before introducing the new fish ... Laurie is concerned about their mental health while in QT. I know you can put PVC piping in there for hiding spots but she wants to add deco or something so it's not so plain. Is that ok? Would it interfere with meds? I assume copper would ruin any deco for future invert/coral use ...

Also, does the use of copper taint the tank and equipment used or can it be thoroughly cleaned afterwards?

I think it's ok to add stuff to QT but why? The fish are only concerned with food/safety. PVC isn't fancy but it serves the purpose in a QT. Anything that contains ceramic or rock would not be able to be used in a tank with coral or inverts. I've got a piece or two of rock in my cycled QT but it will never go in the DT.

Inert things like plastic I think would be ok. Anything that can absorb copper would make it very difficult to maintain therapeutic levels which is pretty critical. If you're treating for Ich/Brook/Velvet you might want to check out the thread on R2R about chloroquine phosphate. Much easier and more effective than copper.

Thanks for the med info. I'll look into getting some of that! Keeping levels of copper seems daunting to me for some reason! That and the risk of killing any inverts on accident.

Yeah, keeping therapeutic levels for a month is a challenge one the reasons I switched to TTM or chloroquine phosphate.
