Hey everyone! I am extremely exited to have located and purchased a Symphyllia Wilsoni LPS coral. I found this at NSA and have been eyeballing it for about 2 months. I went in last week and decided to buy. Here is some basic info. This corals only known location is off of the west coast of Austrailia. Northwest species are more rounded while southwestern species is flat. As of 2009 less than 1000 specimens have been imported into the US. These corals are located in 25 to 40 feet of water in which can range in temerature of 60 to 90 degrees. Colonies 24 inches in diameter are common in the wild while imported specimens range from 2 to 14 inches. These corals are extremely difficult to harvest due the extreme currents found were these corals are located. This information was found in "Reefkeeping Hobbyist Magazine" on the internet. Information reported as being very difficult to frag. The mother colony will heal while most of the frags die.

You ever decide to frag that baby I might lay down a stack of bacon for a piece.

I would like to see a pic of the actual colony. Is that the one in the photo or is it an example from online? I'm trying to familiarize myself with more of the brain corals and their particular needs.

From the reading I have done and talked to a couple of very knowledgable coral people, this one should be left alone as a whole colony. They have had very limited success keeping the frags alive. I will have to do some more research and try to find someone who has had success. It would be a shame not to be able to pass these guys around.

I say we just cut it in half, that way both pieces will not be able to tell which one is the "mother" colony and which is the frag LOL!
