. Ocho the skimmer that you have looks like a ASM(All Seas Marine)protein skimmer. Here is a video of the one I've been running since June of 2008 with good results. I did replace the pump about 9 months ago.
Oh I noticed a huge difference when I replaced the pump on mine too. I have a lifereef that looks nothing like this one though. I actually cleaned the jebao dc pump that was previously the return pump I thought went out on me ... it had just seized up! The adjustability of the pump speed made it much easier to tune it in and get a good skim. Sounds like you and @roco need to get together on tuning and rigging to get yours going well!
I turn that tube on mine to adjust the water level. I adjust the air bubbles with an air valve on the air line tube
Hey I love your silencer. Does yours have a bubble plate thing inside the skimmer like some of the new ones? Mine tends to have way to big of bubbles. I’ve tried raising the whole skimmer up. But somebody just posted that the have an adjustable pump the replaced there old one with, that sounds like it would make a world of difference
Yes. You telescope it up or down to set the level you want the foam to be within the neck of the collection cup. I set my foam level to the middle or lower portion of the neck of the collection cup.
Thanks! The silencer does an excellent job. A good friend made that for me. None of the ASM skimmers have a bubble plate. I've never had a problem with my bubbles being to big. I think if you can get your foam level in the middle or lower portion of the neck of the collection cup you should be fine.
That’s where it’s at, the skimm is just not as dark as I see everybody else’s . I made a bubble plate for mine but didn’t like the operation so it’s out in the garage. I love to tinker with stuff. When everybody comes to my house for this meeting I’m sure if something in my tank is not right they will help me out for sure
The meetings are definitely great for getting input from others! I can bring my tests kits too if you need some numbers.
