I needed a new skimmer to replace an OLD poor performing Urchin skimmer. I have small space requirements in my sump and the Skimz model fit perfectly. I did a bit of research and I was aware of impeller problems that plagued earlier models, but I heard enough good things to make me give it a shot. After one day of break in, this thing was pulling out the dark nastiness like a champ. Two months in it just died... The controller had power, lights and voltage going to the pump. Surely i wasn't experiencing the same failures as others? I took it apart to clean...there was zero build up and the impeller spun freely. BRS was great and sent me a replacement pump, controller, and power adapter. 4 days with no skimmer, but I was back online and the new is working fine. I hope others have a better experience with this product. I am very happy with how it performs so I hope this one lasts.
I'm not familiar with that one as I just started to use a skimmer with this upgrade. It came with a reeflife skimmer and I'm still getting it dialed in so the cup doesn't just fill with water. So far so good. I hope this one doesn't crap out on you too!
