I know many of us have recently upgraded to leds. I'd like all of us to take pics of our corals each month. I would really like to see growth and simple documentation of what your best practices are including light cycle length intensity etc. I'd really like to see Greg's growth as he has Chinese lights and Vegas. I know this is a long term project but I think it would be a benefit to members to help them along in their reefing journey if they could see the results of others.

Great idea, I am up for it. I already have an interesting note on the Chinese LEDs, first I should say I have them at 100% which is way to strong for corals. But in a matter of days with the LEDs my cyno that I have battled for months is gone. Don't know if I simply burned it away or if it won't live under the LEDs.

Having a bit of an issue with the Vegas, they did not cut on today, of course since I am out of town. Shawn is going to stop by tomorrow to see if he can find the issue.

Another observation is that the Vega's make a stunning show tank, but not sure the Chinese LEDs would be a better choice for a frag tank. Not sure you need all that to grow frags.

I plan to hit the Boston Reefers frag auction on Saturday if it stops snowing.

I think I need a bacon cocktail Duane.

This is an awesome thread. This should help persuade some of those reefers who are reluctant to take that LED plunge.

I'm seriously thinking about getting the Vega's for my new tank. Strongly considering using their rail system if I do.

Will be watching this thread closely.

The club was kind enough to install my rail and vega system, they are most ingenious as I would still be "thinking" about it. I must say I was very impressed with their results "how to mount a hanging rail that does not hang" will be in the bookstores soon. Thanks guys, now if I could just get the programmed correctly, intuitive my ass.

My ceiling is slanted and very tall where the tank is going. My plan is to mount one of the tank mounts on each end of the stand and then mount the units with the 12" and 18" EXT rails to center them evenly over the tank. They show that option on their video.

How heavy are the units? How long are the cords?

The Vega's weigh 3.25 pounds and the cord length is 10 feet from Vega to the power adapter and 2.5 feet from power adapter to the plug.

Vega settings and coral growth pictures.

Here are two pictures, the first is from December 2012 and the second is from March 2013. My lights come on at 6:00am with a two hour ramp up to my Vega settings. My Vega's are set at 45% white, 52% red, 54% green, 85% blue, 85% deep blue, 63% royal blue. Then a two hour ramp down starting at 7:00pm.

    Ok, I'm sold. LOL.

That is impressive. Could we see a full tank shot? Is there any "moonlight" settings with these lights? Does the ramp up consist of a slow increase in all colors or does it start with the blues and increase with the white and other colors?

The Vega's are completely controllable to all the questions you asked.

How long did it take to get your percentages up and not burn your corals.

Your tank looks like one of those TOTM off of reef central.

Thanks guys! The Vega controller has a coral acclimation mode. This is where you set the lights to you preferred settings and then the controller slowly raises intensity over about a month or so, back up to your preferred settings.
