Not new to Arkansas but, new to having a saltwater tank in my home. I hope to learn a lot, share a little and, get to know all of you here.
Welcome to RRMAS Bev! Tell us about your tank. How old is it? What are your stocking plans? What size is your tank? We love pictures! There are some folks here that like to help and are very knowledgeable. I've learned a lot from them.
Hiya! Yeah, tell us about your tank! The meeting will be at my place in Benton this Saturday if you want to stop by.
Just getting my tanks started. I've got a 14 gallon nano - only been up a week so, still cycling up with just sand and live rock. My 29 gallon mini has 2 clownfish, 1 green chromis, 4 tiny hermit crabs, green star polyp coral, pulsating xenia coral, that one is six months old but, just added the corals today. I have a 75 gallon that I plan to do a reef tank in, just bought the used tank last week, so cleaning it and building a stand for it. Eventually the 14 gal. nano will have one yellow tailed blue damsel, 2 gobies, 2 hermit crabs and, red, blue and green mushroom coral. My biggest problem is not having a nearby marine fish shop - it's 100 miles to Hot Springs and, that's where I go to get my live critters. (There is a small shop closer but, he has to order almost everything as you request it, the small stock he does have doesn't look to be very well kept so, I dislike that shop.)
Hey and welcome! That tank is a bit too small for a damsel (who are also usually quite territorial) but your tanks sound great! You will love adding corals and if you're anything like me, you'll be addicted in no time! I've got an 85 gallon mixed reef and a 29 gallon cube that is sort of a temporary home/QT right now. And yes, you should come to the meeting Saturday! We meet once a month, eat, and frag up a coral! It's always a good time!
Hiya, Yeah, there's a store in Benton that carries a variety of corals and fish. It's Paradise Pets. If you come to the meeting Saturday, you can stop in and see Kevin's shop.
I live outside of Ashdown - that town consists of Wal Mart, a couple of gas stations, a feed store, churches and schools basically. Here, if Wal Mart doesn't sell it, be prepared top drive at least 30 miles for common stuff and, 100+ for specialty items. The aquarium shop 30 miles away has a few coral and, orders the rest, then you just wait until whenever he does an order, might be a week, might be 6 months to get what you want. Other than him it's all freshwater fish, except the bit of saltwater tank supplies PetSmart sells. Benton is 130 miles form my house, long drive. HotSprings is far too, but I trust the place and, the owner is very knowledgeable, and always there if it's open.
Livestock from Hot Springs ! Come on......you guys were thinking that too The internet is your friend for livestock!
Right now Live Aquaria has free shipping for orders over $99. Other places have free shipping for orders over $150 or so. At 130 miles round trip and 20 mpg it would cost $30 in gas alone not to mention depreciation/maintenance.
Depends on the deal. Probably don't want to ship 1 $15 fish but if you buy several or qualify for free shipping it's not bad.
Almost done stocking my two small tanks, just need one more Green Chromis. Tank 1 has 1 Torch, 3 Mushrooms, 1 Yellow Tail Damesel, 1 Tomato Clown, 1 Six Line Wrasse. Tank 2 has 2 Mushrooms, 1 Brain Coral, 1 Leather Coral, 1 Foxface, 2 Clowns, 1 Green Chromis (all he had last trip to the shop), 1 Scooter Blenny (Yes I know that's really a Dragonet.) So for the next 2-3 months just need one more Green Chromis. In the meantime, I will be bringing my 125 gallon tank up. Got that tank given to me and, was planning a 75 gallon but, now going to sell the empty 75 gallon and go with the 125 for my serious reef tank. The other two are moderate to low light only tanks, the 125 will be set up to support high light corals. There is a shop just 30 miles away, but was in there and, only 4 tanks and, the frag tank had tons of Aptasia in it so, no shopping there. The one in Hot Springs is clean, lots of tanks, no pest in tanks and, cuts me some good deals, like my blue mushroom frag. It has 5 blue and 3 red mushrooms on it, all dime size or smaller but, was only 20.00 for that. Once the get a bit bigger, I plan to separate them, just got it last weekend. My Black Clown was only 20 as well. Chromis 7, so yea good prices. Some things there are higher, but they are worth it, like 170 for a long tentacle anemone with a 3 inch diameter foot that I want so bad and don't have a home for yet.
What’s the hot springs place again? I went to a store down there one time and every sw tank was full of algae. I did get a zoa frag and I really like it ... but I was a bit shocked because the guy, pretty sure it was the owner, was telling me how to keep my tank clean and whatever while his tanks looked absolutely horrible.
