Hey everyone! I've missed you all and wanted to start a thread for my new setup I'll be getting. I plan on getting a 180 gallon and starting from ALMOST scratch. My system that I had before totally crashed and I lost a lost of my corals 99 % of my sps. The fish are totally fine though! With that said I'm going to be in the market for dry rock a good helping of it. I may just have to order it all from online or get it through the fish tank. I'm glad to be moving back to the area...almost forgot I'll be in Cabot!..can't wait to see everyone and their tanks! I also might need a hand because it's just me so willing movers are going to be needed!

For sure Bo I am excited because this system is going to be a learning experience. If you have seen the BRS/WWC videos I am going to use a natural stone tile for the bottom of the tank instead of sand. Thats the interesting part of the new tank setup. I always love input and ideas. As of now I am going with a Planet aquariums 180 and a tidline 48 sump thats what is going to be new......Lighting I will be a 48 inch 8 bulb t5 that I already have but it might need a radion on each side since the light wont cover the whole tank. I will be using my old skimmer that is running on the system right now thats a big euro skimmer along with a jaebo 12k dc return pump. Aquascaping is going to be tough, I don't know what I want I will have so much room for activities in a 72" tank!

Wow! Glad you're moving back.....and a lot closer to me! You'll be surprised, not hard to fill up a 72" tank.

It was hard to pick the 180 or a 215 but I didn't want a 30 inch tall tanks personally!

I think 24 is deep enough for me. I can just reach the bottom without going arm pit deep and worrying if I got deodorant on lol.

Agree 24 is much better. I really like my 22" depth.

Doc your tank is just next level stuff. I would like you as a consultant on the build. I really want everyone as a consultant on here but sadly everything is in motion but not physically with us yet :(. I want to go with a WWC look on the tank I can't figure out if they have a tile bottom. I am to afraid to call the store and ask haha. so ill ask here and r2r. if anyone knows what they are using post it here. I am excited and will have a good amount of zoa and lps colonies to throw in once the long cycle is finished.

I bet if you asked on R2R they would tell you! I'm really interested to see how that looks. If I didn't love sand dwelling wrasses so much I would give it some thought.

Well after some looking I see that they used a starboard for the 500 SO who knows I am going to try some tile unless there is a plastic supplier in the area that I can get starboard. Also any input on tile size to use? I have the option of picking 16x16 or 6x6 bigger means less seems. everyone let me know!! Sample of the color, It is a natural travertine stone tile

NEW DEVELOPMENT I am thinking about using an ABS sheet instead of the stone. What does everyone think??? Upside: Seamless and detritus won't go between the tiles meaning less work for cleaning It is also a lot less money than the tile by a lot. Downside: It will be black or white unless the supplier offers a sand looking sheet.

I like it. Black would look great. Is this going to be SPS or mixed reef?

SPS with a mix of zoas and other corals on the bottom

A carpet of Fruit Loops, Bam Bam's, and Electric Oompa Loompa's would look incredible. I have the Fruit Loops and Bam Bam's. Maybe they will grow enough to frag you some soon.
