I just happened to get up at about 4am and I smelt something burning. Upon looking around the house I heard a intermittent sizzle from my 75 Gal tank. When I looked closer there were puffs of smoke coming from my Marineland stealth heater, whitch had a small split down the side. I don't want to think what might of happened had I not gotten up when I did.
Every thing in the tank looks ok. I looked this up at Reef Central and looks like a common thing. Marineland should recall the heaters. IMO. I have two more of these I guess I will have to replace them as I dont trust them now.
We had one break on us a little while back, I threw it against a brick wall to break the casing, and inside some of the electric parts were slightly rusted, so after a while the water tight seal is not longer as water tight as it needs to be.
I know it's that time of year, but I've seen quite a few recent post from people about these on various boards. There appears to be a batch that sizzle and another batch that actually explode. :O
Yup i had 3 go bad...one shocked me and two blew up. Marineland never would admit there was a problem but traded me for a visatherm. When i left a negative review and foster smith they contacted me but never posted the review to their page....
been working just fine..as far as i can tell anyway. Its a 300 watt and it wasnt keeping my temp on the 125 up so i added in a second 200 watt today and we will see how that does
