Just curious if anyone has ever been disappointed with a coral after purchasing it. Not so much a DOA kind of thing, but it just never looked as great as you had hoped. I ask because I've been looking at different corals for sale on-line, so obviously they will make them look amazing. I wonder if there are some corals that look great in the picture, but dissappoint in person. Maybe the colors aren't as bright, or once they start to grow out they just don't look as great. I've heard some people say things like a superman monti, will just look like rust colored polyps once it grows out, and you really dont get the striking blue and red contrast. Or Zoa's may look great in a large mat, but a polyp or two just gets lost in the tank, or are so small you can't really get a good look at the color form.

yes. I have a coral in one of my tanks right now that arrived different than it was described. As I am sure you already know, an old plate coral skeleton can sprout babies years after it died. I bought a chunk of an old plate that had about 7 babies growing on the top of it. I bought it and when it arrived I discovered the babies were glued in place. It was not a mother, instead it was basically a frag rack.

A lot of pics are photoshopped or taken under just blues. Look for things in the pic the you know what color they should be. Like if the frag rack is blue or purple instead of white not the true color of the coral either.
