Three different tanks, three different power heads in the past 2-3 months. Starfish gets chopped up lost part of 3 legs but lives, tiny tang gets stuck against intake, lives a couple of days then does it again and doesn't make it the second time and finally peacock dragonet gets sucked up and dies. Can someone please tell me why this is happening and what I can do to prevent it.

I had the same thing happen with a starfish though mine didn't survive.

On the fish, I would be willing to bet there was something wrong with them that led to them getting stuck on the intake of the powerhead. Even the least powerful swimming fish in our tanks should be able to avoid getting stuck to a PH (even an MP40/60). Not familiar with peacock dragonet but most dragonets don't venture too far from the substrate.

I did lose a fish to a powerhead but it was my fault. http://www.razorbackreef.com/showthread.php?15273-A-good-reason-not-to-turn-your-power-heads-off

    Hope your luck improves!

Only fish I ever lost to power heads were either sick or as huntindoc I lost one to an MP60 while it was off and then powered up while it was eating algae off the impeller.

Put a sponge filter over them and see if that helps but watch the fish closely as I believe it is something else going on.
