As my lights were going down tonight I noticed one of my two RF anemones balled up. I'd never seen it do this before and was worried something was wrong. When I investigated it was spewing out white liquid that looked almost like smoke. It would relax for a while then ball up and spew out another round of the stuff. Is this a spawning event? Any chance it doing that will stimulate the other one to spawn?
Not sure on that specifically but I was just reading a hitch hiker thread and it was listing lots of random things that could happen in the tank and snails releasing a cloud like that was sperm and star fish that would arch up and release a stream of smoke looking stuff was also spawning. I would say that's probably a good guess! I'm curious to see what happens next!!
The RFA guys on R2R said that it was definitely spawning and that was a male. I guess I have a 50/50 chance the other is a female. I'm going to watch the other one for eggs/babies. Pretty exciting!
I tried and the RFA called the law on me for harassment! I'm going to watch the other one closely. This makes me want to get a few more so I'm reasonably sure to have a female.
I was worried about having an anemone in my tank but this little guy has found a happy spot up under a rock structure and hasn't seemed to bother anyone. My only problem is I don't always remember to feed it. It's completely up under a rock so it really doesn't get much light, just ambient and whatever may be reflected off the bottom. Or if I'm shining my flashlight into the tank! I did that last night and it immediately opened up. I wish it would come out into the open. It's really pretty with the blues on!
