Hi! Terry welcome to Razorback Reef! I encourage to come to the meetings. On the arag substrate I would change it one cup at a time during every water change. The aragonite is holding benefial bacteria, and if you change most of it or all of it at one you could cause an ammonia spike. I see no problem adding a cup sand for everyone cup of aragonite removed, it will cycle and be just fine. I have aragonite sand, and I love the look but, I lose sand to the siphon everytime I do a water change.

Thanks Andy that answered my question! As far as the meetings, I work 12's and on rotation at that. It is often hard for me to have a life outside of this electronic box. I am looking forward to catching a meeting here and there though.

    Hiya,

Welcome to the forums!! Nice nano you've got thier! I like the clean lines to it. Sorry you hate your Arag sand...I love mine, but it's not for everyone.

    Thank You Kim !

I guess i'm just not used to be dirty looking bottom. My other tank has live sand and NEVER has had this look. With the sand the water is always clear and the bottom always clean. I have not even had to vacuum the other tank. With the above tank it is a constant struggle. However thanks to Andy I am going to clean less and lighter. Maybe that will change my mind.

Awesome Nano, I have a 24 JBJ as well, along with my large tanks. It the perfect size. If your ever around Bryant stop in and we can conpare, or ask me any questions you might have.

And to your question, yes you can vacuum out your substrate with your water changes and change it out as desired, some people do this annually with their nanos.
