I had a quick question. Would it be possible to kill aiptasia by Hypo-salinity. And still save the Bio-Filter on -in the LR.

This is just a guess, but I think as tough a aptasia are, any salinity low enough to kill them, is going to kill alot of the good stuffon and in the LR. Haven't heard of that being a way to get rid of them. Do a search on RC and see what you find. Why can't you use Aptasia X?, it works great, just make sure to turn all flow off for 15-20 mins. so it doesn't get blown out of the aptasia.

Just looking for a quick way out. I may just try RO/DI and reseed the Bio-Filter.

being a glass anemone i would say anything low enough to kill inverts (below .017) would kill them. it will also kill any pods or worms in the rock but it will not effect the biological filtration other then the die off and ammonia spike if there is one. i would keep an eye on that and if thats the route you want to go then do it.

I take it you don't have any fish or inverts in the tank. Take the rock out and put in a rubbermaid tub with RO/DI and that way you won't screw up the good bacteria on the walls and the sand bed. It's no fun to have to start over and go through all the changes a tank does to get aged, atleast this way you'll have a big head start. I wouldn't guarantee that a salinty of 1.016 and lower would kill them, if that was the case it would be a solution and I personally haven't seen anything like that talked about as a cure. What size tank and how many is there????

I just did a search on RC and other then aptasia X, joes juice, kalk, peppermint shrimp, the most popular solution was removing the rock and putting in boiling water for a min.. Of course that well kill most everything else on the rock.

How many would you say you had??, it doesn't look to be that many. If it was mine and say less then 20 of them I would use Aptasia X, it is really simple to use. Just make sure you turn all flow off for 15 to 20 mins.. You may have to do some twice, but the stuff does work and you don't have to inject it like the others. You just put the syringe tube in its flower area and it well close its tenacles around it and gently sqirt some of the milk on it and it well actually like it and ingest and they are dead, very easy to use. It takes so long to cycle a tank and let it age that I would not screw up the rock in a 20 gal. tank, there can't be that many of them and unless you ahve corals they don't hurt anything, so you have plenty of time.
