Glenn I used chemipure a long long time ago until I read some of the chemist thoughts and have been using a good grade of carbon for the last 20 years. Give this a read and these guys do this for a living, and owe no alleagents to anyone. You might get better results and save some money too. There is no carbon that well last much past 2 weeks, much less 6 months. And the GFO is a good thing, but well long outlast the carbon, so you are running GFO with no carbon after awhile and all the articles I've ever read says DI resin only works in freshwater. See what you think????

  2. John I agree... carbon can't last that long...

I have had really good sucess running CPE and Purigen. I change mine every other month & buy it on sale for about $10, so it cost me only $60 a year to run it in my tank.

I do think the Bulk Reef Supply carbon is excellent carbon & if I had a big tank, I would run it with thier gfo & change the carbon frequently.

So I agree... that an excellent was to go !

The CPE is run in hundreds and hundreds of the smaller RSM tanks & over the years everyone has loved it, along with 2 or 3 other "name brand" familiars... rowaphos, seagel, etc... but I also know there are other elements that are help maintain the smaller tanks, like 15% weekly water changes.

Thanks for the link... boomer post on RS too & I always like his post.

I know there is always several ways to run reef tank & not only one "right" way... so I am just sharing what been working for me, not what might be best... and I am learning daily & still have lots to learn.

Thanks for sharing - I always enjoy reading your post & learning too !
