at the meeting we had at paradise pets a member was talking about their new controller and what all it did. at that time i wasnt around enough to know anybody so i cant remember who it was. i think he was talking about the new reefkeeper elite controller but i am not sure. i am looking into getting one of these guys and was wondering if anyone has nay pros or cons on them? or a better unit to consider

I have no controller on my large show tank, but I have one on the 75 gallon in the aquarium at Arkansas Tech. It is Red Sea brand, i believe, I wouldn't advise purcasing this one. It's switching mechanism is very abrupt and seems like it would initially wear-out parts faster than they would from continuous running. just a thought...

I do not think Red Sea makes an aquarium controller other than a wave maker or ozonizer. I could be wrong though.

The ReefKeeper Elite is on sale on the Bulk reef supply store. I would like to buy one myself.

I really like my ReefKeeper 2. It controls the lights and temp as well as monitoring the pH. It can do wavemaking and control pH too. I bought it at NSA.

I have been waiting for the Reef keeper elete for well over a year, I was going to wait and see what the internet modual would have under the hood so to speak. I decided instead to purchass the neptune pro system instead, Because I can monitor and control my tank nearly anywhere on the planet with an Iphone...just for my peace of mind....kinda cool to be able to turn on and off equipment incase of potental problems.

does the neptune have the flexabilty of the rke? what all does it monitor?

It's a tad bit more expensive than the rke...but it can monitor and controle disolved o2 and conductivity plus handle water on the floor sensors....the main reason I did not go with the RKE is that it can only monitor the tank via the internet not control....I wanted to be able to take some vacations and still be able to controle the tank incase of upsets.

that would be some nice options. rke can monitor the disolved o2 as well with the orp probe but it would be nice to adjust things while you are gone.

@ Scubadog... Have you seen the app for the iphone that lets you connect in and control and view info. There was a thread on RC. I will try to dig it up. The app is called Aqua Notes. Not sure how Neptune feels about that because that is the name of their software. The app is free, so if you have an iphone and the AC3Pro I would definately get it.

why did you go with teh ac3 pro over the ac3? is there a main difference?

My bad ....I actually went with the AC3...a little cheaper. I am well pleased with the unit. I should have have purchased one more dc8 control strip, curently I have two controling 17 devices. Yes I downloaded the aquanotes for the iphone, and it is wonderfull! We recently took a vacation to south texas and I was able to monitor and control the tank...Peace of mind is well worth the whyle. Also I installed a linksys wireles webcam to view the tank as well. Actually the vacation we took was the first time nothing went wrong whyle we were out of state.

thanks for the info. i bought the ac3 as well a couple weeks ago and love it so far. although one of my dc-8's went down in the first week. it has already been sent back and awaiting replacement. other then that i love the versatility. the programing was not half as hard as i read and expected. so far i am only using 6 plugs but i bought 2 dc-8s for expansion later.

The most difficut part was setting up the wireless functions.....going through an att dsl modem to a netgear wireless router through a wireless linksis ethernet bridge....but well worth the money. Sorry about the dc8...mine does not like t5s even in the low voltage ports.
