Scientific or designer? Does the scientific name matter? Or does having that super lava explosion zoa name really do the coral any good as far as describing what it really is?

I dunno... You will find both side... There are guys out there that can rattle off the scientific names as fast as the common ones.... I think when you are talking to someone casually though or putting up a name on a board somewhere then the common is fine.

As long as it describes what you are looking at and is universal I see no harm. The problem I see is when everybody has a different name for the same coral. That's when you run into problems that get lost in translation.

I feel the names are getting out of control a bit. Plus in my honest opinion I think everyone owes it to themselves to learn scientific names so they can appreciate they're biodiversity in the system.
