Hey guys just wondering if its common for newly cleaned filter socks to produce a lot of bubbles after you replace it. Raffle grabber
any time I add a new filter sock, I usually turn my skimmer off for a few hours. IME they ALWAYS mess with my protein skimmer. Don't have a lot of experience with bubbles other than from the skimmer in that situation, maybe someone else will chime in on that one.
I always wash new filter socks a couple times before I use them. Stops the problems before they start.
I rinse mine then soak in bleach water for afew days then wash in washer with no soap on hot. Dont have a issue with them.
I have been washing on cold with bleach turned inside out on extra rinse. Maybe I should wash it in hot water there may be some proteins that didn't get washed out all the way. Raffle grabber
I have gotten in trouble in the past for washing my socks in detergent and bleach like reagular cloths and since you brought it up I would get alot of foaming in my skimmer and would have to turn it off for awhile. Â I have always had a sock for mechanical filtration but have changed to washing without soap, I still bleach though. Â Something about wanting the sock to be white again makes me feel like it is clean. I would just get in the habit of turning your skimmer off for awhile after you replace the filter.
I soak mine for about a week in bleack water till I get a few then I just wash in hot water. Never have a foaming issue.
If it was me, I would refrain from the washing machine. It may have residual detergent around the edges or somewhere. I always soaked them in bleach in a old salt bucket for a few days and then soaked them in PRIME for a few more in yet a another bucket. You could even soak for one day each. Of course this is just my opinion do what you think is right.
I've noticed when my sock gets dirty and water starts flowing over the top my skimmer starts to have larger bubbles in the reaction chamber causing it to overflow. Quite annoying really. Never noticed any problems with a new sock or a freshly washed one though.
