Keathley Patterson, electrical supply house, in Conway has a great little Generac suitcase style generator in stock.  They are almost identical to the little portable Honda suit case style generators, but much more affordable, and would be perfect for your fish tank use.  Tell them Luke Barnett with Koontz Electric sent you.  I think I might get one too, just for giggles.  They are just so cool looking and ultra portable.  Could come in handy for anything and they are super super quiet like the Hondas.

If there is enough interest on the board for people who may want one of these little guys for the same back up reasons as you, I might be able to get a deal if we commit to a certain quantity.  Are there any others that you think might want one?

Here are the specs on the IX series generators.  Really, the only major differences between the three is wattage and run time.  I can get them for cost plus 10% through my work account.  Because everyone will have different requirements with regards to wattage needs, below is the spec sheets on the three I can get.  Let me know if any of these interest you guys.

My prices includes freight and tax.

    iX800 is $359.00
    iX1600 is $515.00

Found a better deal.  Home Depot carries the same ones for less.  They will even do free shipping to your house.  I have even seen these in the stores so you may want to call your local store to check availability.  They may be in stock.

The only one I can get a better deal on over Home Depot is the biggest one, the ix2000.  My price is $550,00.

    Home Depot prices
    iX800-$318.00 including shipping and tax
iX1600- $499.00 including shipping and tax

Check out maxtools if the power goes out get a big enough one to do what you need they have a 4400w for 399.00 free shipping I got one big enough to run most of my house. you need to think about the temp also if it is 100 out side you need to cool it to. Your electric co. has a device you can put behind your meter that you just plug into and run what you need. I bought the XP10000e for $899.00 and had to run it for 3 days and nights it was a life saver. Had all that I needed. A small one will do pumps and lights but not heat or cool the tank think about it and get what you need at its worst to be safe. WE have to much in our tanks to take chances. They sell out quick during outages.

Yeah, it all depends on how much you would like to run at one time.  The iX800 (smallest one) is enough to run my RSM250 with all the lighting (234 watts), 3 pumps, and the small chiller that I have sitting next to it.  In the winter time, if the chiller isnt needed, it would support the load of the 200 watt heater as well.

For those of you who have the higher wattage lighting, bigger pumps, and bigger chillers, you will obviously need more capacity and may need to consider the iX1600 or the iX2000 instead.

Generac is a quality product for the dollar and is the number one selling residential/portable generator is the U.S.  These style generators are much more portable than most others and will serve a second purpose for things like camping or hunting because they are so much more compact than the others.

If you are interested in running your house with it, then obviously these are not the ones for you.

For fish tanks, small to medium sizes, the iX Series generators from Generac would be ideal.
