Chris is awesome! We spent about 30 min planning, 1.5hrs at Lowes and about 4 hours cutting, gluing and drilling screws in. He's gonna finish paneling and trimming Monday.

Beautiful work you two! I can't wait to see it when it was finished.

Of course I was "supervisory" only. Chris has done all of the work.

The door is about 30" wide so we can fit a pretty large sump. Not planning on a base. Gonna fit a piece of pool liner and the sump will sit in the liner on the floor. Hmm...where to mount the pump(s)...

Day 3 - got the lining in the bottom in and two power strips. I also got the lights installed which are xenon bulbs - really nice. Next up is the door.

An auto-switch for the cabinet lights would be cool. We already discussed it but didn't want to make another trip to the hardware store. I think we may add it after I get the stand home.

Now that's some fast progress, It took me over a year to get that far!

  12. Yeah, Chris really made it look easy, too. I couldn't have gotten that far if they were all giant LEGO pieces.

  13. Day 3 - Got the door completed and glued up. The only thing left on the construction of the stand is to put the hardware on the door.

  14. Got the stand finished. The removable door works great - I may incorporate this design in my future builds.

  15. That's pretty sweet. I like general nautical look it has without being "over-the-top-looks-like-right-off-a-schooner" looking.

We picked up the stand Tuesday and it's at the painter's for finishing. If he gets done by Friday, we'll pick up the tank and maybe a sump Saturday and begin the plumbing design.

I'm planning to setup everything on my carport to test the plumbing and sump layout. When all the design and preliminary setup is tested, the old tank will need to be moved. When the time comes, I'll buy pizza and beverages for any volunteers that would like to help with this.

Joe's father had a painter friend to finish the stand and it looks great. Joe picked up the tank in Hot Springs today and all fits well. Next up is the hood which will have two 250 watt Metal Halides with several VHO to act as a sunrise and sunset. The tank is really starting to come together.

I ordered the sand and two Eheim 1262 pumps today. Once the pumps arrive we'll be able to do the plumbing design.

I've decided to use one of the new pumps and one overflow for the sump and the other for a closed loop for circulation only. I think 1200gph going through a 29g sump is way too much.
