I thought that was you, but was not sure. Just for Fish in Fort Smith has a new 100 gallon and stand for 500.00. It may come with more stuff also. He may come down even lower on it, he has had it a while now. Especially if you buy some other stuff from him.

Yea Steve qouted 400 cash the other day for the whole setup. Problem is i hate that stand. I build furniture and have built my stand and am currently building a large new canopy. I cant stand cheap built ugly stands. If I could sell the stand to someone and make up for some of the cost I would seriously consider it. I was kinda hoping ot find a used tanks and save a little there. Thinking about the Tunze internal skinner and a Fluval cannister...any ideas on that? What were you using on your tank for mechanical filtration? I was too much in awe at your corals and tangs to pay attention to the finer details. E-mail me anytime you want. Ill sed pics of my setup to ya if you want.

I personally prefer a sump method. You can hide your equipment down below out of sight. I use filter socks for mechanical filtration. It also frees up tank space inside the tank (Tunze skimmer), and is less stress on the fish since all maintenance is done from below rather than inside the tank.

Steve can order you a tank if you ask him. I have been talking to him about a reef ready 55 gallon for a frag tank to replace my 20 gallon long. He stated the tanks with the black frame are cheaper than the ones with an oak trim also. If you build your stand and canopy, you can conceal the trim with your woodwork also. It may save a little money. You don't have to buy a stand from him if he just orders you the tank.

Here are a couple pics of the sump I made and used on my 90 gallon reef ready tank.

He and NSA are giving me some prices. I have a 55 with a crack near the top on the side if you want it you can have it. Taking up space in my garage. Dont know what it would take to fix it...its not reef ready. Your not interested in selling about 20lbs of rock are you? I need some more after my order this week came in. So you dont use something like an emperor or a cannister filter? Just a sock and a lot of rock?

I just use a lot of rock and a sock. Kinda rhymes.. Sorry, I cannot give up any live rock right now. In fact I am looking to buy some more myself. I would like to find a few pieces of Tonga plate, and mainly Fiji or Marshall island rock.

Canister filters are nitrate reactors. They just add nitrates to your system. You can use a long sump underneath your main tank in your stand, and put all kinds of equipment in there. The most expensive thing being the skimmer. We can make you a nitrate reactor that uses sulphur beads to remove nitrates from your tank. Having a predator tank one can assume they will be fed well. This can lead to higher nitrate levels in the water.

Just for Fish has a few pounds of live rock listed for $7.00 a pound. Its not the stuff you said you did not like due to the macro algea growing on it. Its from another tank he had it curing in. I's say roughly 20 pounds. I may buy it next week if its still there.

Im contemplating a trip to NSA or World of Water this week..if I go do you need anything? I may try and get some more rock then. I guess I could use my bandaged 55 for a sump..it would do the trick...what would you think about dual emporer 400's?

I would just buy a hang on the back overflow. Less costs in the long run. The emperor's need to have the filters replaced about once every week or two. Filter sock can be turned inside out, rinsed, soaked in bleach, then soaked in Prime declorinator, and re used.

Some people do not even use filter socks. Marc Levenson (Melev) on Reef Central and Jeff Turcheck Life Reef do not believe in filter socks as they take alot of useful stuff out of the water column. I too have been contemplating not using them. One less thing to do. Life Reef makes an awesome overflow box as well. Never looses prime. http://www.lifereef.com/frame.html

I really doubt on my reef tank I could get away with not running a sock or Emporer. I just dont think I have the rock to support it without the biowheel and carbon. Maybe with a lot more rock? Ill have to have you guys out one night when you have time and you can line me out.

My experience with the RR tanks is the overflow towers are a great place to lose fish and junk to accumulate. My next tank will have a Calfo-style overflow.

I made egg crate covers for my overflows that keep fish from getting in there. I also covered the egg crate with a black vinyl to keep light from getting down inside letting algae grow. Really small fish such as cleaner gobies may be able to get through the teeth, but that has not happened to me in 4 years.

Would you make me a couple of those covers?

What brand of tank do you have? Are the overflows semi round or square? Do you have a Durso stand pipe sticking up beyond the top of your overflow?

It's a 120g All-Glass with two D-shaped overflows on the back glass . The towers have a drain with a Durso and a return pipe with lockline attached. Both stick up beyond the top of the tower.
