    Nothing to forgive we were all newbies and we all learned the same way, research, $$$ and trial and error.

    The one labeled with the s is a staghorn frag(SPS)which requires high lighting and unfortunately in your case they really need a mature tank. Since you posted your a newbie I would be afraid your tank wouldnt sustain the staghorn. How long has your tank been setup? I wasnt there during the fragging but I think you got lucky and got a blue chalice(LPS) that they had but someone that was there for the frag workshop can chime in to be sure. Just do lots of research you can look through here and Reefcentral.com has lots of great information. I would recommend starting out with some zoanthids, mushrooms, leathers they tend to be better for new tanks. I am sure someone would be willing to trade you something for it [IMG] Good luck.

    I would be happy to help you with selection of stock for your tank. I have several frags that would be suitable for you and would love to show them to you. Just send me a PM with contact information and we can discuss it.

    As for Vicki.....luckiest person I know........I'm not going to tell you I found a frag of the blue chalice hidden behind my BIG Acan when I got home, but something may be able to be worked out. We were selling frags after the workshop for $10.00, so I bet if you send Joe a check for the frag I can get it to you. See how lucky you are, out of about 200 frags thats the only one we left behind. Let me know !!!

    i have a 75 gal. i was going to wait on the light but i got tired of genny and scott telling me no when i asked about corals ha ha.
    light was a little over 800 but genny said they get 11 + so yea im happy. i got one of the 2 bulb t5s about 4 weeks ago and thought it would be ok for now but like they say you get what you pay for.

    you will be happy with that light. when your tank is ready it will pretty much handle anything just like she said. I am actually keeping sps under just t5's so yours will definitely be great. Your gonna have lots of fun filling up that tank just be patient as you add livestock. Happy Reefing!

    Sounds like you have a good start for a very nice system. If you progress as well as tangafish you will soon be moving the furniture around for the next addition. Let me know if I can help you .

    Just watch the tank temp when you add that light. I would take Norman up on his offer and start with some hardier corals first, I'm sure he can help.

    I also recieved the same piece and hate to cut in but have qustions about its survival rate. i have a 14 gal bio cube i took froom a friend that was no longer financialy able to care for the tank. I had to purchase a new light from n.s.s.. When i purchased the light it had been weeks since a grow light had been working. Short story long, I went in and and once my situation was explained i paid for something i dont have a clue what it is. the #'s on the light are pl-24w+10000k. I hate fallin under rookie staus but the shoe fits so can anyone te4ll me if I need to pass these frags on to someone else to better benifit them?

    You have a 24 watt power compact with a 10,000 K kevlar rating. I don't know anything about nano's, but it sounds like until you get more experience even if the light is enough you ought to hand it off for now. Start with something easier to keep. If it is a hard coral you well have to learn about and keep the alk and cal. levels just right, control temp swings where as with softies you don't have the first 2 issues and you can read and learn before going to corals with skeletons.

    I will trade you a nice leather frag if you don't wish to keep that frag and may have some others that will work better in your tank if you want them.

    First off... Welcome to the club Butchwww and Gill! We are all here to help each other.

    @ butchwww:
    You will enjoy giong to Norman's just to see his systems!

    @gill:
    One of my tanks is a 14g Biocube. I don't think the one labeled "S" for Staghorn (Acropora sp.) will do very well in that tank. With that tank I would go with "soft" (leathers, zoa's, polyps, mushrooms) and/or "LPS" (large polyp stony... brains, frogspawn, bubble, favia, etc.) corals. BUT... I would first try your hand at the "soft" corals because they are generally considered hardier than any of the stony corals.

    With LPS you well have to do dozing of alk and calc., mag. additives and buy test kits that well tell you where the levels are as they have skeletons to maintain.
