I have to get a chiller for my 125 reef asap. it has glass tops and I am running T5's. I can not control the temperature in this tank. although (because of this tank) I am keeping my house at a chilly 71 degrees it doesnt help at all. I even added some mesh material to the front and left the lids open hoping venting the tank would help. no such luck. the tank is running 83 +/- degrees regardless if the lights are off or on. This is the chiller I am planning on buying. Any pro's, cons, experiences, recommendations. It is larger that I need but considering the difficulty with controlling the temperatures I am having I figured bigger would be better. I wished I could do something like Chris on his ingenious undertaking I dont have the space for something like his chiller. sure wished i had a fish room right now Sure could've save me a nice chunk of change. can you run a fan over the sump for evap instead of the chiller? i had crazy swings in my 75 gl before i got the ac3 and started using it. my temp was bouncing from 78 to 82 daily. now it stays between 80-82.5 running two 250 w halides 10 hours a day. i am using evap thru canopy fans i got at nsa and the ac3 to control the rest.

as far as the chiller i have no advise except the 5 amps its going to pull plus the return pump you will have to run with it is going to add more to the e-bill. thats going to equal 600ws of power when its running.

if possible i would use the chiller as a last resort and exhaust all other options first. i am not installing the chiller i got for my tank until i have tried everything possible without it. and i have my fingers crossed i have good luck.

I have been trying with no luck. I even have another fan running across the top of the tank to direct heat away from the light. None of my other tanks run this hot. they run between 78-79. the heater has been unplugged so it's not that. I knew the pumps would add heat but dang I never dreamed that much. i have a mag 7, mag 9, coralife skimmer (not sure what size the pump is) and i think 5 maxijet 1200's(2 in the tank and 3 for running varoius things. I have never had to run a chiller before so it hurts to shell out that kind of $ but I cant risk losing a fortune in livestock and I want them to be healthy and stressfree. My light also stated it is not to be installed in a canopy so that is out. In the long run i am sure it will be cheaper. considering my ac unit is running 24/7 to keep my house at 71. I hate to see this months light bill[IMG]

We use fans and a dehumidifier. Works great.

Have had good luck with my pacific coast, it is a chiller and heater.

  6. I have read a lot of nice user post about the pacific coast chillers too.

Not quite the same scale, but I have this chiller on my 29G. I find it is not adding as much heat and noise to the room as promised. The chiller controller also operates a heater.

Have checked to see if your therometer is reading an accurate temp. Have you check it with other therometers for comparison.

The glass covers are holding the heat in. Try removing the glass and let the fans hit the water. Also may want to look at external water pumps, take the heat out of the water by not adding as much.

Move powerheads to point up and get more surface movement. This will allow the fans to cool better also.

I actually have a digital and an old fashioned glass thermometer in my tanks. I even pulled another one from another tank and unfortunately it's right. I have a couple wrasse in this tank so I cant take the glass tops off and the egg crates are too big. Hard to describe but I opened the lids(folded back) and covered the front open portion of the tank with some of the plastic mesh craft sheets from walmart. Cant remember for the life of me what it is called but I thought it might help but wishful thinking. I went ahead and ordered the JBJ Artica it was on sale and I got free shipping all the reviews I found were good too. Thanks everybody! It should be here tomorrow. Good thing it says it easy to hook up first time to ever use one of these things. Wish me luck!

Marjorie, I see your on to another tank. What does that make now, 3? Before you know it you will be caught up with me.LOL
