Display tank 180 gallons with a refugium/sump being a 75 gallon that we only keep 50 gallons in.
We bought this tank from a local fish store. They said that the seals were bad and they were just going to get rid of it, so we were able to purchase it for cheap. Tearing it down and cleaning it was by far the hardest part. Putting it back together and sealing it was easy. We had it up and running by September 2012. All was going really well until one night in late November. We have always ran three 250w metal halides with four blue actinic. Well apparently we had the lights to close to the tank and it got the top center bracing to hot and it cracked. So franticly we drained the water into our other 75 gallon tank, which was previously a fresh water, and stared swapping our corals and fish into it. All live rock and sand went into 30 gallon trash cans where we prayed all would be ok. Un be known to us our three year old would end up contaminating over half of our live rock with food. We ended up having to wash it all in scalding hot water two times and put it in fresh salt water with some of that instant bacteria stuff to help boost the bio growth on the rock. Most of our sand ended up souring so we had to rinse it as well.
We finally got the glass and fixed the tank and had it running in February 2013. We put two bottles of the bio culture in and let it cycle for two weeks. Then the slowly started acclimating our corals to their new environment. We were worried at first that we didn't wait long enough before putting the corals in but time would prove us wrong. All has done very well, we have even been able to add some hard corals that we were previously unable to grow. I am Very happy with how things are looking. Here are some pictures I hope you enjoy them.
