I ran across a cute blue spotted puffer at NSA, not that we are going to be adding any fish anytime soon, but from what I am reading, no puffers are listed as reef safe.... :-( Do any of you have anything to add from experience?
My porcupine puffer has lived in my reef tank for five months now with no problem what so ever besides a random hermit or two getting eaten here and there. However puffers with sharp teeth are born to eat coal.
I think they are adorable!  But I would be pissed to wake up to find my clam was a late night snack for the guy.....
Don't want to... that's the reason for the post.  Looking for any GOOD stories regarding puffers in your reef.
Most people I have seen keep puffers do so in a species only tank. Never kept them myself but always thought they were in tanks of there own because they liked munching on corals.
In coral magazine it takes about Tobies as being slightly reef safe. But since u said you have a clam I definitely would not chance it. Puffers need to eat hard shelled critters to keep their teeth from growing into their heads just like rodents have to constantly chew on stuff. I'll bring that issue of coral magazine with me Saturday. Don't let me forget. raffle grabber
we have a saddle back or v-tenni...(tobi) lol spelling... any who... he's cute and hasn't bothered a thing! Ralph&Cindy have one- we saw it at the meeting last year- DH has been wanting a puffer since day one so we got it! we have several clams and no problem! not sure about the puffers that get bigger... I say go for it!
I have a fingerprint toby puffer thats been in my rock only tank. At one point I decided to go for it and bought a beautiful acan frag. Long story short I ended up with a new frag tank to place it in. But I do keep torches and hammers with him and I've never had a problem. Just be careful and plan alternatives.
