i need any suggestions for a reef safe aptasia and mohano eater. i have an opportunity to get alot of coral and rock but it has both of them on it and i am looking for a way to counter them naturally. i know copperband and kliens will work for aptasia as will pepperment shrimp but what abuot mohano?

Use a syringe and inject the majano with boiling RO water. Tried this yesterday for the first time, worked like a charm. No more majano anemone.

thats not really an option in this case. there are hundreds of mohano and aptasia and it would not be possible to get them all with out some natural predator helping.

Try this sight I talked to these people in St louis a few weeks back they sell Berghia nudibranches that only eat aiptasia. They are a little on the expensive side.

If I had this problem and were setting up a new system as you are, I would take all the rock and place it in a creek or pond or in tubs of fresh water. This would remove all problems with unwanted critters and keep your rock from drying out. No problem with drying out, but some things can survive a long time out of seawater, but not in freshwater. I had a lot of rock outside in tubs that got rainwater filled and this worked well for me.

it is a glass anemone like aptasia and from what i have read it is harder to get rid of once you get it. some butterflies will eat it but thats tricky in itself.

I bought some rock a while back that was covered in Majanos. The only thing that I could get to kill them was Joe's Juice. It took several tries to kill them. It would probably be better just to sit the rock out in the hot sun, and then scrap them off when they are dry.

Aptasia-x works great for mine. May have to treat the big ones twice, but kills reg aptasia on the first dose

If the rock does not have anything good on it and you just want the rock get a turkey fryer (no oil) put water in it and put the whole rock in and boil the critters out. I could be wrong just a thought.

I have never tried that John. I know they were very tough little guys.
