Have any of you tried this idea? A lot of folks are having great results keeping/reducing Nitrates to 0. http://forum.marinedepot.com/Topic20039-13-1.aspx
Had one in my fuge. I believe it was 6" deep. Had lots of worms in it. It never turned black in the bottom as I had enough flow and life in it. Didn't really need it. I had extra sand that I didn't want to throw out. Keep in mind a remote DSB is only needed if your rock and substrate can't handle your bioload. If they can't you want to rethink your stock. IMO, having a 3-4 in SB in your display will be enough for your display. You'll have enough rock and biodiversity in your system. And i'm sure the club won't let you overstock. So I wouldn't go through the extra work. My rule of thumb is to by a small rock or a pound or two of rubble every third time you go to a LFS. This will help you build up your ecosystem and eliminate the need for extra equipment and gadgets. And swap rocks with trusted club members.
