RO/DI system question

I have been shopping for RO/DI systems, and I think I'm going to buy a 5-stage kit from bulk reef supply:

    http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/RO/DI-Fil ... _info.html

It has all the bells and whistles: flush kit, dual TDS meter, pressure guage, automatic shutoff, etc.

I have never set one up before, and I have ZERO plumbing experience, so I have a few rookie questions:

    1) I believe that most of my plumbing is PVC. Does one of these self-piercing saddle valves work fine on PVC?

    2) I want to set it up in the basement, and I don't have any formal in the floor type drains. Is there a way to connect the waste line into a drain line leaving the house, or any similar suggestions?

    3) I understand that the automatic shutoff requires a float valve. How does this system work?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Ben - sure some members with ro/di units will post back.... soon.

But if it helps... I can highly recommend the filterguys - the two owners are really nice, I called and chatted with them about a ro/di unit for 30 mins & they answered every question I had and I ask a ton about everything...

I have also read lots of great post & reviews about them. I am sure they can help answer some questions & are more than willing to, very nice guys :)

I have actually looked at them. To get the exact same unit from them (same filters, etc.) w/ all of the bells and whistles costs $228 shipped. The one from Bulk Reef Supply is $214 shipped. Also, a set of replacement filters from Filter guys is $41 vs. $32 from bulk reef supply, again for the exact same thing. Thanks for the heads up, though.

Mine is mounted under the kitchen sink. The cold water line is tapped for source water and the sink drain is tapped for waste water.

http://www.buckeyefieldsupply.com/Premium-Series-c33.html I have used this company in the past also.

The filter guys are good also as noted before. These guys are awesome for personalized business. I do highly recommend them. You can call them explain to them what you want and they will build it. I used them for my nitrate reactor project a while back. Super fast shipping!! May want to twll them about the lower price else where and they may match it, but might not.

My water unit is a Aqua-FX Barracuda. I would rather have the Mako though.

I have the same filter from bulk reef supply you are looking at. I just attached min to the nozzle on the sink in my garage and placed the drain tube in the sink. I just have a cheap plastic basin sink in my garage and I keep the attachment screwed into my sink drain all the time. I can remove it if needed. I have never had any problems with it and change the filters about 3 times per year.

Mine is hooked up under the master bath vanity with a T fitting that screws on the shut off valve under the sink that the flex hose to the faucet is on and then the flex hose screwson it and a johnquest fitting on the outlet of the T with a inline john quest shutoff valve to the float valve on the garbage can I use for a holding tank for RO/DI water. I would pierce any of your plumbing. I have a Johnquest T fitting in the line to the holding tank which a line goes down through the floor under the house to the sump which also has a float shutoff valve.

I also would check out Buckeye Field Supply. I bought filters from mine and customer service was really good.
    Good luck
