    now for an update.

a few months ago a decease wiped out several of my fish. i tore the tank down and left it fallow for 6 weeks and treated all teh fish that made it with hypo, copper, and a few other meds over the course of the 6 weeks. since they have beenback in every body is doing great.

1 month ago both my main and back up heater in the dt quit at one point or another and the tank got down to around 69 degrees before i caught it which bleached most of my sps out. a few made it but i have replaced the heaters with 2 new ones and programed the ac3 to leave 2 halides on if the temp falls below 75 degrees again so i will know if it happens again since the lighting will be irregular.

3 days ago the heater in my qt tank stuck on and raised the tank temp to 96 degrees over night killing everything in the tank i got from paradise pets. that was another big loss. i am ordering an ac jr to put on the qt tank to prevent this from happening again. should be here and installed by next weekend if all goes well.

since the decease i have added a few fish that were donated by a few people here and there. i have added
1 naso vlamingi- already had one, no aggression yet. they swim together(adopted fish)
1 blonde naso, yellow tang, and two orange oscellarus clowns(pair) adopted form house fire tank)
1 copper banded butterfly- he eats mysis and spirolina brine and has been in the tank for 2 months now. so far so good.
1 durassa clam- i want to add some clams so i added him first just to see how things go. being more durable then the others i figured this would be the best starter clam.

well thats about it so far. i have added a few corals i have picked up here and there, my next target coral is another scolymia with bright colors and then a couple acan colonies.

  3. Beautiful tank, fish & coral !

Can you tell us the maintenance you are performing on it? Like water changes, how frequent & how much & what supplements you are adding?

i have cut back wate rchanges to 100gl every 2 months since my parameters are all still good. calcium before water changes are still over 400 ppm and magnesium is at 1300 +. i do not suppliment anything yet since my demand is so small relative to gallons.

The copper band is not getting enough to eat. He is hollow looking behind his gills. He is slowly starving.

there are several fish in the hobby that we know are hard to keep. the copper band is one. he has put on weight since i got him. whether he makes it or not time will tell.

It doesn't matter what we think or try. There are only a few ways of keeping a CB alive. A really well established tank with a load of pods and him being the main fish, an old tank with a refuge, or to get them onto clams so with their long snout they are the only ones to be able to get into the partially opened clam. Putting them into a well established tank with a bunch of other fish much less a new tank he well go the way of the first one. I can see him in the picture and he is not getting enough to eat and well starve in time. I have a really nice one in QT now for 3 months that I am trying to get onto clams and it is taking longer then normal, BUT he well not go in the main tank until he is, as he would starve in a matter of months. You can reconcile it anyway you want but I well bet you money he well starve in that enviroment.

write it or say it how you want. your opinion is what it is. are youtelling me you never tried a fish that didnt work in your set up? i canrecall one cleaner wrasse that starved out of your tank. which means hewas out competed or the tank was to new for him? or just the fact thatsome will eat and some wont? it really doesnt matter who does what orsays, they will eat or they wont. i think it would be good to let this end here. if you choose to continue then start a thread for it where it should be. but this is not the place and i would appreciate it if we could stay on track

That cleaner wrasse was taken as a favor for someone, he wasn't going to make it where he was, and there hasn't been one in the tank since as most of my fish aren't big enough to support one, I was hoping he would eat prepared. You made the statement that a CB is a hard fish to KEEP. IT IS NOT if done with the proper knowledge. It is very well known what they require and I have tried to tell you several times, and yet you keep putting them in a NEW tank that has no pod population yet or aged live rock with any kind of growth or concern about what fish are in there to compete with him. I am not looking to create a problem, I just stated that he is starving, AND he is, and you getting all upset isn't going to change that fact.

i was referring to the cleaner wrasse you told me you purchased fromnsa that died in your tank. so by all means if we are talking aboutbuying fish that we know may starve or not eat and die is wrong, thenmaybe you should head your own advise. now im sure im wrong or this was different but it doesnt matter. your opinions are exactly that. if i didnt ask for your opinion i would appreciate it if you didnt voice it. this is supposed to be a informative and friendly site, so like i said, start a thread to debate it in or pm me and we can do this in private if you wish, but this isnt the place.

Your right it was from NSA and it was not in good shape on arrival and if I remember right I was given it for nothing. Your the one making this a debate. I just made a statement that the CB was starving, which is a FACT, not an opinion. You came back and said CB's were hard to keep. They are impossible to keep in his present enviroment, they are easy to keep in a proper enviroment. This is the perfect place to debate this if that is what you want to do, as maybe some well learn from it. One already starved in that new tank and this one well too and that is a fact not an opinion. Again all I said was he is starving.
