Did you guys see this new SEIO Polario pump at MACNA? Seems like a neat pump for a closed loop since it can switch directions to go out either end. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showt ... id=7915186
They had it in a very small demo tank. It looked pretty cool but I don't understand how you would plumb it. Where would the return suction be?
Apparently it has one pipe going out each end. So each pipe acts as either a suction or a output depending on which way the pump was flowing.
That is the way it looks to me. I could be misunderstanding things though. That is the only way it would make sense to have it plumbed outside the tank like in the photo, one pipe going to either end. Kind of weird.
I have to agree with Blake - to me it looked like a really really big powerhead that was more difficult to hide.
I agree with Blake too...that Polario is just a big stupid powerhead. Oh wait, I forgot that was my original post. I was talking about running in its external closed loop config. So nothing is in the tank other than two in/outlets, just like a normal closed loop. Seemed cool to me anyway as you get a pump that does the back and forth motion we all seem to desire without having to use a SCWD or a OM unit. To me it is a clever and innovative idea. Putting it in the tank...that would not be so cool as then it would be a big powerhead as you both have stated.
I would be worried about sucking something in. Since the output keeps becoming the input and vice versa you would have to be careful about how you kept the animals out.
OK never mind I am dumb, That is not the way they featured it at MACNA, it was INSIDE something like a 20 gallon high.
