I am finding a number of small starfish in my tank. They are white and about the size of a #2 pencil. My power was out Saturday for about 12 hours and I started to see them on my glass.I have removed over 30 of these sence Saturday. Can any one help me to I.D. these and are they harmful?

Asterina star fish. They say the grey/blue looking ones are more prone to eat on corals. The white ones are good. I have a lot of them in my set up also. I use to get up every morning and take the ones I could off of the glass. They are beneficial, but become a tad of an eye sore after a while. IMO

I had them in every tank I've had over the years with LR and they don't hurt anything, instead I think they might do some good in someway.

  5. These starfish are really interesting. I like finding all of the odd combinations of legs that they will have from two to five with several stuck together, you name it you see some weird configuration of limbs on these little star fish.

I really like my little starfish. I personally think they eat algae and detritus never had any problem with them eating any coral. I to like to see the different combos of legs. Just leave them in there unless you have seen them do some damage to something IMO.
