That is really cool being able to see it happen on the glass!

Great shots, I have never seen them split on the glass before either. Just wake up and there's more of them !!!

I have seen that in my tank many times but never on the glass. He better get them out while he can once bubble tip get a hold on the rock they aren't easy to get out.

  5. Well, got home last night and guess what? My anemone split!!! One of them is hauling anemone butt around the tank right now. Not sure where it's going. I'm thinking I need to probably get it out and trade it in to a local store or something. It's not really bothering anything, so I guess it's no big deal. Whats the prefered technique for removing an anemone?

keep it submerged at all times, and dont force it off the rock or you will hurt it. put a small rock next to it and blow a power head on it to get it to move on it if you can

  7. I'll give this a shot this weekend. When I got up this morning it had already moved down in between two large rocks. These are interesting critters. If it decides not to move, I'll just live with it, I guess.

Thats what I said was I'll just live with and now I have 8 of them and the powerhead will work about 80% of the time. If you plan to keep your tank a reef I would remove it as soon as you can as they can damage or kill coral I found this out the hard way and lost quite a few corals.

  9. Well, I tried the powerhead trick all weekend. It ain't moving. What about blocking the light from it with an overhanging rock? It's down at the bottom of the tank attached to a large piece of base rock. I may be able to put a smaller flat rock over it to block the light, or even cut some opaque plastic to wedge in the rocks above it to shade it. I'm assuming if you shade it enough it would move to get more light.

Everytime mine get to much shade they split again I have two that just moved into a dark hole in the tank and I know that in a day or two I may have several more. I would try to put a rock next to the anemone and in the direction of flow and see if it will move onto that rock then you can just remove that rock. But you could also shade it at the same time and see what happens and keep us posted on this as I would love to have more than one option for removing anemones.

  11. HELP!!!!!!!

HELP!!!!!!! The anemone was on the move tonight. I watched it closely...it moved around a bit then settled in one location for about an hour. I went upstairs. About an hour later I went downstairs and the anemone had been sucked into the powerhead on the opposite side of the tank!!!!! The tank is a bit cloudy. I turned the powerhead off. I just noticed this a few minutes ago. What should I do?!?!?!?!? This is tragic. I'm going to look at it better to see what the damage is. I came straight up here and posted this.

    Thanks,
    Darren

  12. I made an executive descision. I removed the anemone, including the grill of the powerhead, and placed it in a pail of tankwater. I did the transfer without removing the anemone from the water...I scooped the anemone and powerhead grill into a small pail/container. I started a drip acclimator with a very slow drip going into the container from my newly setup but not yet connected 26 gallon refugium. The refugium has nothing but a hernit crab, 7" of substrate, and about 15lbs of cured live rock. It's got 96W of T5 lighting, so that won't be an issue. It's been running for about a week, but the rock was cured for 3 weeks prior. It doesn't have a skimmer, because I was planning on it being connected to my display tank sump by the end of the week and it becoming part of the larger system. I have some macro algae due in by next wednesday, I think. I hope the little guy makes it.
