    Hi All,

Well the CRASE is coming around again, and this year we are moving on to bigger and better things. On Behalf of COMAS and its members we would like to invite you all to the event.

    www.thecrase.com

First, we have a new Venue. This year the CRASE will be held at the COX convention center, downtown Oklahoma City. This venue allows us a great deal more space, easier and closer parking as well as better facilities for the vendors. Also, being downtown, it also lets our out of town visitors enjoy Bricktown.

    http://www.coxconventioncenter.com/

The Speakers are already lined up and this year we have a great line up. Coming from New York, Christine Williams will be talking about the perils of marine aquaria. Christine is extremely knowledgable about the toxins encountered in marine animals and gives an excellent talk on when your tank bites back.

From San Francisco Richard Ross will be talking about Cephalopods in captive systems. If you have ever wondered about cuttlefish, or octopus, then this is a not to be missed talk. Richard is a curator at the Steinghart aquaria and is world famous for his captive breeding of both marine cephs as well as fish.

Finally, and no stranger to the CRASE, Jake Adams will be returning all the way from Colorado. Jake will be presenting anoverview of current lighting technologies for aquaria. His talk will mostly focus on LEDs, where we are in the hobby, and how to efectively use LEDs over our system. Jake is a great speaker and is extremely knowledgable on this topic.

The vendors are Signing up and this year should see more than ever including
    Reef Nutrition,
    Reefkoi,
    IceCap,
    ReefBrite,
    D Town Corals
    Hhhhu's Fooking Frag Farm
    VillageFrags
    Marco Rocks,
    Aquarium Oddballs,
    Dirks Reef,
    Seachem,
    ReefBrite,
    Blue Zoo,
    Fish 2morrow,
    The AquaDoc

    And many more local vendors.

As we start to accumulate raffle prizes I will also post them to this thread.

Tickets are on sale via paypal now.

    Send to [email:1nxxg0c1]craseokc@gmail.com[/email:1nxxg0c1]

    $15 per person
please include full names for each ticket.

We will have name badges for all registered attendees again. Please pre-purchase if you are able to so I can make sure we have enough materials.

PM me if you have any questions.

Hope to see you all there,

It's an away game for football (WPS!), so it looks like I'm going to try and head that way... leaving from NWA. It will be nice to possibly get the chance to meet a some of you.

    Norman,

I would like to share a ride with you. This sounds like a good event and I am going to miss the Memphis frag swap because of work.

    Speaker Change at CRASE 2010
    [HR]
We have a speaker change to announce for the CRASE conference on September 18th.

Jake Adams will not be coming to speak, in his place I am very pleased to announce that we have Sanjay Joshi.

Dr. Sanjay Joshi is probably the worlds leading authority on lighting systems for tanks. Some of you may remember him from CRASE 2 where he gave an excellent discussion on lighting sytems for aquaria.

I am extremely pleased that he will be able to rejoin us for CRASE 4.

LED Basics and Comparison with other Lighting Technologies

LED lighting has the potential to be the "next big thing" in the aquarium hobby. This talk will present the basics of LED lighting with a focus on aspects that can assist in understanding LED and in evaluating LED lighting fixtures for aquarium use. Data on the spread and intensity of a few commercially available LED fixtures will be presented and compared to other aquarium lighting options.

I really want to extend a warm welcome to Razorback Reefers. I know in the past several of you have made the trip to CRASE and I hope enjoyed the day.

This year the CRASE is being held on the edge of the historic Bricktown district at the states largest convention center. We are expecting close to 30 vendors and expect to have the largest selection of corals for sale in the state ever. I know of two vendors alone that will be brining close to 500 pieces each. When you figure in the truly rare and exotic corals from Reefkoi, Hhhu and others- well this will be the best chance yet to get superb corals at the lowest of prices.

Outside the venue are some of the cities best restaurants and entertainment, so there is plenty to see and do in addition to the CRASE.

Add to this the raffle prizes (over several thousand dollars worth) as well as the various giveaways and the great line up of speakers...well CRASE is set to break previous records.

I really hope you can make it out to OKC and join us.

if you have any questions, please post them and let me know and I or Ed will do our best to answer them for you.

    Regards,

    Paul.

    Hi All,
I just got an email from Paul Whitby inviting the RRMAS members to Crase. If you plan to go to a frag swap-mini convention this is the one. Check out Paul's post above for details. The speakers are the same as are speaking at MACNA this week. This is the type of event I'm hoping we can hold in the LR area. We can see first hand how this is done. Also there will be over 1000 frags from just 2 of the 40 vendors. As close as this is I would say this is a must attend. If you have to choose between CRASE or Memphis, it's a no brainer. !! I will be going to both.

Just Wanted to give you all an update on the CRASE show:

If you haven't yet heard about all that is planned for this years event, let me take this opportunity to summarize what is happening and give you any last minute pieces of information.

CRASE 2010 is being held at the COX Convention Center, downtown Oklahoma City on saturday September 18th.
The Show itself is located the ground floor of the North end of the convention center. You can enter the building off of Sheridan Street directly opposite the Rennaisance Hotel, or from Reno and walk through the center.
Tickets sales will begin at 9.00AM and general admission begins at 9.30AM.
Tickets are also available online, for more details please visit ww.thecrase.com where there is a convenient link to purchase tickets.
All holders of pre-purchased tickets have access to the vendor show from 9.00AM, so if you really want to cherry pic from the vendors, this is the route to go.

All tickets are $15, and children under 12 enter for free.
This year we have a great selection of speakers.

The schedule of the day, and an overview of each topic is as follows:

    Ticket Sales Open at 9.00.
    Doors Open at 9.30AM.
9.30 CRASE 2010 Opens, Vendors Show Opens
10.00 Dr Paul Whitby, Opening Comments:
10.15-11.15 Christine Williams. When Tanks Bite Back.

So, you worked in your tank and now you have a painful rash, and don't know why? Fish stings, other stings, spines, cuts, bites, envenomations, poisonings...all are fair game and all are possible in your home aquarium, and being prepared is your best defense. This lecture will teach you the basics of aquarium safety: animals that can hurt you, what symptoms to look out for, when to worry, when to REALLY worry, and how to treat injuries and unfortunate events.

11.45-12.45 Richard Ross. Captive Rearing of Cephalopods.
Octopus, Squid and Cuttles have captivated people since before anyone really knew anything about them. Both tiny and huge, there is something so intriguing about a wriggling mass of arms, tentacles, suckers, beaks and huge eyes that many myths and legends have risen up about these beasties. Do they attack ships and eat fisherman? Not so much, but they may try to escape from your tank and some can inject you with venom if they bite you! With their color changing abilities, apparent intelligence, boneless appendages and interactive nature, cephalopods are some of the most interesting animals to observe in the wild, or keep in home aquaria. And never has the time been better to keep these animals - we know more about which species are appropriate for captivity and how to care for them than ever before. In this talk, well cover cephs in general, their impact on human culture, the different kinds of cephs available for home tanks, husbandry, and breeding strategies with plenty of photo and video eyecandy.

12.45- 2.00 Open Time, Vendor Show, Meet the speakers, lunch2.00-3.00 Sanjay Joshi. LED lighting, State of the Art.
