I have been looking at these two and have been told that both work wonderfully but that the best bet would be to go with the Nanostream b/c the Vortech is a lil loud. I do know that the old style blue backs could make a racket if the prop wasnt lined up correctly and if it was on full but do they have most of the sound out of them now.

I think Cory had a new style on his and I dont remember hearing it when we were playing with it wide open and it was a 40....

Anyone else have either of these and would like to comment on the noise output vrs the size and the room in the tank....

I am looking at this for the Neo Nano so those of you that have seen it know I dont want something bulky on the side inside the tank at least...

    Maybe a suggestion or two?

Please do... I have really been itching to get one but after the talk with LFS the ones they had before seemed a little too loud... Said there was always a vibrating noise that drove them up the wall and probably would me too if in the LR on my tank...

I have an MP20W, and to me, it's absolutely silent. My overflow on my Biocube, and my Tunze skimmer are both MUCH louder than the Vortech. In fact, it seems nearly silent to me...

I got the new MP10 today, and it works great! I lined it up and cant hear any vibrations. when i put my ear up to the motor it makes a slight winning sound, which might be louder is at 100% (mines set around 80%) but its no louder than other noises with my tank, and my tank is nearly silent! Ask any questions you wish about the pump, ill be happy to answer them.
    I would recommend it.

I have an MP40w. It is not a newer one. It runs pretty quiet. If it is running wide open you can hear it when you are close to it.

So, lets look at it like this. If your tank is in a room with absolutely no background noise, yes you will probably hear something (I am talking about my MP40). If your heat/air unit makes a little sound you can hear, it will probably be enough to cover it up. As for the MP10, I would think it is quieter.

I imagine Robby.F could give you a better description of the noise from his new MP10 ES

  7. Robby - congrats on your new MP10 !

I've been considering a vortech for a while now, and will probably be getting it next month sometime.

I run Vortechs.. and I agree. Very silent, but you can slightly hear them when they are cranked full. Lot of full flow though, really nice with the modes. I've never owned Tunze, but they were my other choice also. Not cheap, so they better last forever.
