I would like to here any rants, bitching, or otherwise simi formal ideas on what should be put in the fug and why!!!! This should be fun! Cheato is a must, I have a good bit of live rock down there along with some star fish and a couple snails. I find great enjoyment just by opening up the doors and setting back! Ohhh ya know, does anybody have a Crimson Starfish!?

Depends on what you want to accompolish with the fuge? Lots of habitat if you want pods and mysids...rubble rock is perfecdt for that and some sand. Cheato is a nice algae, although i prefer a mix of everything such as mangroves, caulpra, and even some corals as well(for reverse day light to help manage Ph swings.

Hummm, I have been looking for some mangroves!!! I think Ill put some of our frags down there for the purpose of stabalizing the PH. THanks for the tips!

  4. I have a mangrove in the clam tank that I got from Norman - it is doing very well. The clam tank is a top view shallow aquarium so it does well there, otherwise I would have it in the refugium like you are talking about. I have about what you have only the substrate is Miracle Mud. I am pretty neutral about whether Miracle Mud is a benefit for not - I can only say that it is expensive.

I have no sand in my fuge, but I believe I am developing some due to the HUGE urchin eating the coraline algae and rock. am growing a MONSTER wad of cheato in there. I do not have the lighting to keep frags in the fuge. I hope to have a grow-out tank soon for that. My fuge is a 40gal breeder with a Mag 7 feeding it. Oh, and the light is on 24/7.

Beanhead made a point be sure to have enough lighting for your frags, at the moment i am running pretty weak lighting over the the sump/fuge/prop tank. Untill I start loading up on some ORA's. Ph is the main reason I use a refugium, next is nutrient managenent, then pod production. Can't really state what my ph is for certain, an old ph probe and some really old buffer solution lead to a likley inaccurate reading. I have millions of pods and mysids in the fuge just not all that certain they are making the jurney through the return pumps into the display like I had hoped and planed for in the system design.
