Hey guys. I'm new to the forum - you guys have a great thing going here.

I just set up a 29g BioCube. It's been running for about 9 days now, and I'm just starting to do a little research on skimmers. Has anyone had any experience with skimmers on a small setup like mine? This is my first reef tank, so be easy on me. =D

Take a look at the Coralife skimmers. They are great for the money.

i have a coralife on my 46 gallon bowfront and it has always worked great for me. the only con i could think of is sometimes it can overflow if the air isnt adjusted just right but no big deal. only really an issue when you add new water.

    Thanks for the help. =D

  6. I am big on My Reef Creations skimmers, they started making a HOT (Hang On Tank) version about a year ago. I have been running a MR2 for about 3 years now - it is built like a tank.

Yeah, the MRC skimmers are sick... Only problem is - I'm limited by size with my skimmer. It's going into a 6 inch by 6 inch space. Oceanic makes one, so I'm gonna do a little more research in that direction.

Tunze has a little skimmer that might fit in the back compartment in that tank. There have been several people please with those little tanks and craming all kinds of skimmers back there.

I'm new to this forum, too. I'm not trying to hijack your thread EspiE, but I have a similar quandry. I have a 24 gal Aquapod. It's been up and running for 8 months and has fish and corals. I don't have a skimmer on my tank either and I'm not sure if I will be able to add one. I have the Aquapod tank with the full hood. Will any of these skimmers fit all under the hood? Is a skimmer really necessary on a small tank like mine?

I checked on those, and they look/sound fantastic. Unfortunately they want 168.00 plus shipping for the nano model, and I'm a college student on a budget.... bummer. Maybe I'll check Ebay.

No worries about the hijack. =D Current and Oceanic both make skimmers that fit in the back compartment of our tanks. I have heard bad things about the Current Fission skimmer, so I'd probably avoid that one. Oceanic's skimmer is fairly new - I haven't heard or read anything good or bad about it.

Have you modded your Aquapod at all? There are so many things you can do to trick them out and/or void your warranty. =P

Just keep saving up is all I can say. That Current fisson skimmer is garbage. I have seen one work (or NOT work).

    EspiE,

No mods yet. I'm not very mechanically inclined. I want to make sure I understand how everything works as is before I start changing things up.
